I’m supposedly getting my custom VRChat avatar soon (it’s been nearly 2 years :unamused:) but I don’t have a tracking solution, so I’m looking to get something soon. I got to fool around in VRChat using my friend’s kit (and avatar) and I don’t think I can go back to losing control of my legs and hips now. Let us know what you think of them when you get them!

The OwO tracker app uses some of the tech developed for it. It uses your phone’s accellerometer as a tracker and it seems to work ok, but nobody really has their hands on a real slime tracker one yet as far as I can tell. The design is open source though, so it seems pretty likely if manufacturing kinks can be worked out for the chips it uses they’ll be pretty available eventually.

you’ve been able to build your own for a while in theory, but the chips they need have been really hit by the supply chain problems making it difficult in practice

Hey folks with Valve Indexes

Is there like, an easy diagnostic chart to test the lenses? Like the Oculus Rift I was using had a test pattern that came into focus when your headset was properly adjusted, and I haven’t figured out if there’s similar with the Index. It sure seems like it should have one but none of Valve’s bizarrely erratic setup guides mention any of it that I’ve been able to find so far.

I’ve seen people use this:

Personally, I use text in the interface to adjust the IPD

I don’t own any VR hardware but this SF6 mod makes me want to watch some digital action figures go at it in a lifesize diorama

I finally got to try Paper Beast tonight. I had forgotten anything I might have heard about it. I just knew I wanted to play it at some point.

Very creative and interesting game. I haven’t finished it yet. (I can only do so much VR in one session and I stopped right after the balloon thing put me down by some turtles.)

Knowing it’s by Éric Chahi, I can see echoes of Another World in some of the polygonal creatures and landscapes.

I just learned that the PSVR2 has been out for months already, but I’ve never heard anyone say a word about it. I guess because it has only like 3 games and they aren’t particularly interesting ones.

Looks like you can’t even play Astro Bot using it, though a few other PSVR1 games have been ported over.

hmmm

i definitely talked about it somewhere, but no idea where, now. probably in one of the “games you played…” threads

It’s infuriating. They made the best consumer vr headset yet at a great price point but it only plays three games on one game console, and can’t even play the extant PSVR games

I have no idea what they were thinking with it

i don’t think any of the best psvr1 exclusives got patches (astro, ace combat 6, deracine)

It’s worth it for Resident Evil 8 VR (and soon Resident Evil 4 Remake VR). Cosmic Smash VR seems cool as well.

I feel there must be something about game hardware production that messes with people’s minds as literally Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have all screwed up royally at different points, generally when at their most successful. It seems obvious that the PSVR 2 not being backwards compatible would kill it in the crib and it needed to be designed around avoiding just that, just like it should have been obvious to Microsoft that launching their console at $100 more without the ability to sell your used games was courting disaster and pretend I wrote something up about the Wii U or Virtual Boy.

Lex Fridman is a clown, I have listened to a few interviews with developers I respect and it made me angry that someone able to lure in such high-profile guests is wasting their time with a very flawed and surface-level understanding of what it is they do

Someone called him the Joe Rogan of AI in a positive manner but it is definitely true in a derogatory manner

It’s absolutely bizarre to see this video talking about “what if you could have a conversation with someone on the other side of the world like they were there” immediately after logging out of VRChat where I just had a conversation with people from the other side of the world.

Except the anthro animal people there look way less creepy than whatever the fuck they’re doing in this video.

This shit is already here, and better that talking to Zuck’s zardoz head in a black void.

Zuck has never heard of the sunk cost fallacy and he’s got a few billions left to burn

“Zardoz head” is too much of a compliment for Zuck
