Shadow Tower is so bad ass…

I’ve just been thinking about how the first computer games I ever played back in 1983 were pirated copies.

[me at the local indie game meetup] It’s a deckbuilding rouglike metroidvania with crafting elements, with an emphasis on exploration

In the Emuurom demo (retroactively alpha I think) since it was more of a small proof of concept the edges of the map were rather vague in that there were secret screens you could get to by finding secret passages or doing things around the edges of screens, but there were also seemingly designed platforms and bits of environment that were just beyond your reach no matter what but seemed as usable as anything else if you could just figure out how to get there. It is why I am interested to see what happens when it is made into a full game, to see if they can keep that sense of mystery going.

Honestly I feel like if I ever release a solo title again it might just be shareware. Why not, right? I feel like most modern platforms make it pretty easy to sell a free title with paid DLC episodes. Shareware was basically the only way child Bees played any video games at all since it’s not like I had video game money just lying around

I’m sure some of you remember that I did a DROD LP thread on this forum when I played through the first DROD game some years back. I keep thinking that at some point in the future I need to get around to the next DROD game on my list, and that I could run another LP thread when I did so. The biggest issue being that the next DROD game is pretty much acknowledged as the hardest in the series, while the fairly mid-level challenge of Journey to Rooted Hold (the first one I played) felt right at the limit of what I was capable of figuring out.

The thing is the fact that running a blind playthrough LP for a game with numerous new mechanics I am unaware of with a difficulty virtually guaranteed to get me stuck numerous times on top of me likely going “go read the old thread” in lieu of actually explaining the basic mechanics again sounds like such an obvious recipe for disaster that the main appeal to me is seeing exactly how badly it’d go.

I may need to examine my proclivity for engaging in “this gaming project seems problematic, let’s totally do it” notions.

in the 90s I went to school with a kid whose dad was a b2 pilot (the base where they were stationed at was nearby, those things were always flying overhead and whatnot), and one time I tried to get a modem deathmatch game of Jane’s Combat Simulations: Advanced Tactical Fighters going, my dad versus his dad, but we couldn’t get it working. and I’m still annoyed about that

how definitely not political video games are, watching a video (no graphic violence) of Russian artillery strikes with the Battlefield 3 theme
