videogame things you think about a lot

that scientist in the beginning of Half-Life who says “it’s about to go critical!” in like a droopy dog mutton chop voice.

how aria of sorrow keeps spikes a consistent threat regardless of your level by scaling up the damage they inflict as your defense increases

Whenever someone says “Retroarch cores” to me I think to myself,

“Sometimes I don’t log into Steam for two weeks because I don’t want to deal with the 2FA”

the PSP scene and the cult of personality around Dark_AleX, whose cat at the door behaviour and eventual re-emergence as the main person behind subsequent scene group M33 was an absolutely incredible journey

I would love to see writing about this by someone who isn’t wololo or qj er, can actually write, or like a noclip type documentary lmao

This unlocked the idea I remember any of it. I don’t. But I did at some point.

NOW, WE HAVE DECIDED THAT YOU ARE NO DOUBT ADEQUATE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE, SO WE ARE NOT EVEN GOING TO QUESTION YOU IN THAT FIELD. HOWEVER, WE DO REQUIRE THAT OUR GRADUATES BE WELL-ROUNDED. WE ARE THEREFORE GOING TO POSE TO YOU A SIMPLE QUESTION FROM THE LIBERAL ARTS. YOUR ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION ALONE WILL DETERMINE YOUR SUCCESS OR FAILURE IN THIS EXAM. PLEASE RESTRICT YOUR ANSWER TO TWO LINES.
DR ZEROUGH: HERE IS THE QUESTION: WHAT IS ART?

the text adventure game from 1980 where your mission is to convince a computerised professor that you know what art is. you win the game if you type “book” or “painting” (the professor praises you for your practical common sense approach) or if you say “i know it when i see it” (ditto) and any other answer gets you quibbled to death 20th century analytic philosophy style. a very powerful kind of artificial hell.

6000 PRINT"THAT IS PURELY A VALUE-JUDGEMENT, “;N0$;N2$;”.
WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR OPINIONS, WE WANT A DEFINITION
OF ART. TRY IT AGAIN."

There is no information about this guy online. Someone call the California’s Comptroller’s Office and find out when Ric Green died.

I often think about how Greendog was saved from a giant crab by fast food marketing representatives in Max Overload issue 2

Feels like somebody with better understanding of these things could explain why I find so much of the Pyre and Silent Hill 3 soundtracks reminiscent of one another. Obviously they each go their own direction plenty of times, but I keep hearing bits that remind me of the other one.

Is this supposed to remind me of the 36 Lessons of Vivec? Come to think of it take Yoshi’s Island and just have baby Mario directing the Yoshis and you’ve got something similar to the start of Vivec’s story. Maybe that’s what happened to Mario, he was once just a plumber from Brooklyn, but all those power ups, magic wands, and stars he gathered over the years gave him the power to change things.
