lately i’ve been thinking a lot about how microtransactions and GAAS have forced the awkward improvised gamer vernacular term ‘skins’ into the mainstream, because no one ever bothered to think of a less repulsive way to say ‘costumes’
I always thought ‘skin’ comes from character artist lingo to refer to the sum total of models and textures that can be applied to a character mesh.
They’re figuratively applying a skin to a skeleton. I’m not sure if there’s a different term in film and animation.
oh yeah i guess it might come from somewhere else but in this context i always heard it in relation to like fan made things that you could download and mod the game with. like it wasn’t ever officially used in the game because the option to customize your appearance like that wasn’t like an emphasized feature of the original game.
wherever it comes from it is still very gross
like even calling those things skeletons is grotesque to me, all of the anatomical references applied to geometric creations inside a computer is very weird
here you see this polygonal model’s kidney
I mean using skeleton to represent the hard structure of a thing isn’t just a game term.
And you can skin more than people. You can skin a tank or an airplane. Though in that case the skeleton should rightfully be called an air-frame.
this doesn’t make it good
‘Skin betting’ in CSGO sounds really seedy
They pretty intuitively convey the functions they perform, though. If you showed me these things and you asked me to name them I might very well come up with the same words if I had no prior knoweldge.

The Devil showed her true form.
when me and the boys can finally game together again after the pandemic ends
Byakuren, Keine and Clownpiece recently. I’ve been reading the touhou wiki, no interest in playing any of the games though
i like it when video games subject enemies to the same bullshit and benefits as they do players. like with stagger in Dark Souls, or the way NPCs can land headshots on you in STALKER.
i wish they kept the thing they originally intended for stalker where npcs could finish the game before you
checked out the backloggd thread and website:
… couldn’t help myself an click onto Minesweeper, and now i wonder how you “complete” minesweeper, and what that even means.
on a different, but related and half serious, half j/k note, did IC, in any of its incarnations, or SB for the matter, have a topic about minesweeper and whether it is a social commentary about how every player is a potential, yet just virtual, landmine victim?
My mind has gone off and thought about Solitair(e?) as a gateway drug to gambling addiction as well, and now coming to my point:. … idk what pit Hover, the Win95 game, could drop people into.
i was wondering to myself earlier are solitaire games gaining traction on steam because the solitaire that comes packed with windows computers now is FUCKING TERRIBLE
Regency Solitaire is good and perfectly-clothed
