just way too busy thinking about making you (n., collective) his bitch
It’s pretty common to hear a drowning sound, like when Gordon needs to come up for air, whenever you are done loading and first get access to a Garry’s Mod server. This might just be how Gmod does things, for whatever reason I don’t know. But as you hear that sound and suddenly appear in the game with everyone else, I can’t help but think that this is what it must be like to have been water birthed.
How Final Fantasy 5 goes for “character tragically sacrifices themselves to save the team” in like 10 different cutscenes over the course of the game, and not one of those scenes actually lands
right?? it’s somehow a step back not just from 4 in that regard, but arguably also from… 2. on the famicom. the tone can’t carry it off.
the beginning and the ending tone are solid, but everything in the middle with galuf and his old buds feels like an afterthought
The tone kind of works with Gilgamesh. The cutscenes can’t help playing out like a big joke even when they’re trying to be po-facedly tragic, and Gilgamesh is one of the only characters who actually leans into that.
FFVI’s Ultros is a better execution of that same idea because his sprite is cuter. But Gilgamesh seems to come up more often as a fan favorite because he’s the only thing FFV fans have
I think the tone is goofy-stupid
the bad guys are about as competent and threatening as He-Man villains and the tragedies should be read on the same level
The GBA translation is really good because it knows this is a game starring Butz and just runs from there
yeah, I like the writing in V generally, it’s just that when they kill characters off it feels a little perplexing in most of the scripts in my head (I don’t think I’ve played the GBA version, only the official PSX localization and the RPGe 1999 patch)
Also X-Death may look like a big armored knight but we’re told at one point that he’s actually a 2000-year-old tree
That’s it. That’s the lore. No further elaboration
Wow it’s like y’all didn’t spend a summer in the basement of the castle grinding out all the jobs and it shows.
In SNes9x
In 1998.
final fantasy v has the best anime adaptation of any final fantasy, which inexplicably hasn’t ever been released on any format besides vhs afaik
the half-translated version where Gilgamesh only says,
??? ?? ??? ???
Mark Cerny would never choose to host Jeopardy, but he would be the best possible person for the job.
he will, in fact, talk to you about anything and everything
FFV doesn’t need lore or compelling character sacrifice scenes it’s a funny little game about having a really good job system
gonna be thinking about this a lot
they really called it the last story
I was wondering the other day why I ever watched so much AVGN. It seems very of its time(?), i dunno how to describe it.
