videogame things you think about a lot (Part 1)

I think I’ve mentioned this before (perhaps in this very topic, who knows!) but the only game song I made up lyrics to as a child was for the final dungeon theme in the original Legend of Zelda:

They were:

“Ganon is here
Ganon is here
Ganon is here
and so is the princess Zelda”

In retrospect they were maybe a bit literal.

Any pvp online competition causes me to sweat immediately whether I care or not.

Evidence: when I did one round of marathon during the beautiful game.

I often wonder if it’s fair to see the pokemon petting stuff that was introduced in like X/Y and can be seen in Let’s Go Pikachu (below) as directly connected to similar modes that were in erotic dating games… Are they the same systems, or is this an ahistoric interpretation somehow? Did horny need to happen to let gamefreakers pet their pikachus?

The giantbomb wiki has an entry for ‘Groping Mechanic’ with some thought provoking discussion happening among its editors:

Even though it was a failure in other respects I still think “Daydream” is the best name for a VR platform to date

thinking a lot about the trend in the past year of people just crawling back up inside the womb and wanting to be a child because of their powerlessness in the face of, well, everything. time to recede into a coma of maroon 5 and eminem.

its so interesting to me because like i played all these games but dont have access to the particular part of bro culture that this all comes from, so like we did the same things but their listening to much shittier music and being homophobic and it becomes very strange instead…the gamers are getting old now and their response to loss is a heartfelt wish for more call of duty mw2. a stain of videogames culture

bro…wake up! it’s 1986 and ine-san left you your allowance today and we gotta go play the capsule machines!

it must be nice to have nostalgia for when times were good…this is literally the best my life has ever been, right now, and i wouldnt exactly say things are super great. but then again i wouldn’t want what fucking videogames i played when i was 12 to be the peak of my life either. much to think about

I wonder if video games have anything to do with my people-pleasing tendencies. Like, I know I have a hard time saying no because I want to be liked and I’m conflict-averse, but also am I just conditioned by a lot of the games I’ve played to have a ton of favors/tasks for other people cooking on the back burner?
