pure land buddhism is a major thematic component of kenji miyazawa’s works. Miyazawa’s setting of Ihatov is itself a sort of pure land (though not a transcendent one, it underlies our reality rather than being completely separate), it is a land where “even sin and sadness shine in a way that is sacred and lovely”
Interestingly, he was born into a pure land buddhist family but converted to nichiren buddhism long before he wrote most of his works. (but he was essentially a pure land buddhist who happened to love the lotus sutra rather than a strict nichiren buddhist)
i might make a new thread about this, but i often think about how increpare (stephen lavelle) did so many things artistically in a lot of his earlier small free games that people still have not caught up to whatsoever. but most people haven’t played them because stuff is so impossible to find on his fucking website. this is something i’ve often talked to friends about but never formally got people to play specific games.
so i made a curated pile of windows versions of games that inspired me by him in some way or another to download here, for anyone interested. these are all free games, so no piracy is involved here:
like i said, these are Windows versions (other than the handful of Flash links) so you’ll have to search to find the Mac ones yourself if you want to play those. they should be on his website.
also this is the list of games either in there or linked in there if you want to search and download them individually yourself:
Cities of Day and Night, Home, Judith, Ollam House, Opera Omnia, Rara Racer, running memories, Signifier, Sleeping Scared, Striptease, subway adventure, The Clotted Island, The Serpent, To my first born son, triptych, Universal History of Light, Untitled, Vigil, Terrible Whiteness of Appalachain Nights, Oíche Mhaith, Therapy Game
It’s nothing new but it’s still wild to me when Fortnite will throw in a whole extra battle pass mid-season.
Trying to imagine the sorta person who is gonna max the complete Fortnite battle pass suite (regular, extra, Racing, Music…does the Lego have one?) and they gotta either be 11 years old or someone who is just glued to their computer for sixteen hours a day.
I uninstalled the Star Wars hero shooter from my Switch because it kept trying to entice me into its Battle Pass. Same (well, worse, much worse, maybe the worst) with Multiversus.
