Thinking about this, I should amend it to remove ‘child’ because the people who make these games think Pokemon is for Serious Adults and so want to ‘fix’ the aspect of the games that presents them as kiddie stuff. Probably also the reason Niantic made the trainers in GO adults in yoga pants etc

I don’t think there’s many examples of Animal Crossing clones, but the few I have seen annoyed me as well because they all basically were ‘befriend cute animals in a pastoral village’ but they ‘fixed’ the camera and rolling-log perspective or adding dating and employment etc.

Off the top of my head I can think of at least two ways to make an interesting riff on AC that isn’t just cute anthro animals in Cosy Coffee ‘N’ Booktok Forestville
