who invented the term “battle pass” and what did it evoke for them. it has a kind of trumpy anti-poetry
yet another one of valves crimes they have gotten away with
permission to Do Battle SIR
Can now only hear the abominable phrase “battle pass” in the “they indicted me” voice
this trilobite from Aquaria seems vaguely vaginal to me

six days in faluja was something I remember a lot from when I would still get game informer magazine, and I guess I remember it as one of the more complicated moral crisis stories from that period when I was young. and I think of how weird it is that the game did eventually get finished, rebooted at a random like 11 years later, and recently released on steam and I haven’t heard or seen a single thing about it.
There are many former military tactical shooter youtube guys and they’re all over it. It’s a niche, you’re either in it or you’re not. You’re right that there’s no general penetration though, tac shooters are firmly in dedicated hobbyist territory now.
It’s also an insane piece of fascist propaganda ofc I don’t know if that needed to be said
unsurprisingly. I honestly assume this of all military tactical shooter games until proven differently. the press stuff they did to announce it again was bizarre.
Eh, a lot of tac shooters I’d say are much more neoliberal nwo propaganda - lots of emphasis on internationalism, peacekeeping, the UN, and so forth. Pax Americana and the loving embrace of NATO. Rainbow Six being the prime example, and Arma to an extent (though Arma is more simply an anodyne hardware demonstration that reinforces the status quo through silence than possessed of any kind of themes). In fact the Rainbow Six villains are all European fascists, lol. This stuff is bad and certainly not left, but it isn’t fascist either.
6 Days, with its hyperfocus on one particular battle with zero depiction of any collateral consequences and the dewy-eyed bathetic lionization of Our Boys, is explicitly fash. Any unflinching depcition of Iraq is really, our most nakedly imperial and aggressive post-WW1 war. It’s like 300, but at least in 300 Our Boys were playing defense. This doesn’t even have that fig leaf.
The neolib globalist types do not like to think or talk about Iraq. They hated that dirty little war. There’s a reason Arma 3 jumps straight to the 2030s and makes China the antagonist.
the Arma devs make military software for the USA and the Norwegian army or some shit trains in Arma 3 so I can’t separate it from fascism in any way. possibly the most fascist game
It’s a big mistake to think of the military-industrial complex as fascist, it robs that word of its descriptive power. Sometimes it stokes fascism a tool for its ends, other times fascism is inconvenient to it and is suppressed. Fascists hate the international legal order that the MIC enforces. Ammon Bundy was a fascist, the feds that prosecuted him were servants of a neoliberal plutocracy.
fair fair it’s still the most evil game
i loathe arma
Arma 3 is actually about NATO vs an evil empowered Iran that has recruited all of Americas enemies in a Warsaw pact style power bloc including China and Belarus (but not Russia for some reason) so I would not give it the same faint praise I would give raven shields UN boys go on a world tour to shoot neo nazis storyline
I know we’ve never really touched the arma campaigns but they’ve always been pretty reactionary. Arma 2 operation arrowhead is about the coalition invading “Takistan” to oust “Colonel Aziz” lol, Arma 2 vanillas campaign is about the USMC intervening in Eastern Europe and coming into conflict with Russia (this game was released after the south ossetia invasion…) and Arma 1 is literally about NATO “peacekeepers” gunning down communist rebels to prop up a US-aligned monarchy
even the first ghost recon is a better pick for “these games aren’t necessarily fascist” because Russia invades Georgia in the far off future of, uh, 2008 (oops this ended up actually happening) and you are part of a UN strike force that ends up liberating the russian and georgian people from ULTRANATIONALISM in a display of international cooperation cuz of all those cool soldiers from all over the world you unlocked by doing the secondary objectives.
Maybe not every modern tactical shooter is “fascist” but they sure are a far cry from the ones I grew up playing which were very rooted in 90s type thinking instead of whatever the fuck that new cop one is that has gay nightclub massacre levels and shit that people adore is trying to do. everyone swarmed to tarkov and that is literally a murderhobo game. Even Ground Branch, which has zero narrative content in it at the moment, is directly about being a hatchetman for the CIA and will probably acknowledge this at some point.
Basically Cuba is just old and it’s not 2003 anymore
Ok but none of this is fascist, is what I was saying
This one totally is though
When I was a kid, one of my acquaintance-friends explained that PlayStation uses triangles to render graphics, and the GameCube uses circles to render graphics, and that’s why Nintendo’s graphics were so much smoother and had less edges.
imagining every gamecube game looking like ecstatica
and I didn’t disagree. Just pointing out this
is bullshit. The NATO loving boys of Bohemia Interactive don’t deserve any slack!
