theres specifically a law the UK passed enforcing it that doesnt allow you to use the symbol at all which is why prison architect actually got in trouble for it, but in the US bush passed a law that means you really only get in trouble if you’re trying to claim you’re part of the red cross by using it without permission which is probably why valve has never had to change it
fuck the red cross, total trash organization that just hoovers up charity money, more concerned with PR than with actually helping people
if you want to send monetary aid to people in crisis, avoid any and all international organizations, they’re not equipped to do anything besides lie to you about how much they’re helping.
I’m rather amused Overwatch’s workaround was to make Mercy swiss so they could use a cross anyway.
on killing a fly:
THE ORGANISM IS A QUESTION POSED BY NATURE AND ANSWERED BY DEATH. BUT YOU ARE A DIFFERENT KIND OF QUESTION, WITH A DIFFERENT KIND OF ANSWER
Sounds like a homestuck quote
it’s from deus ex’s most portentous conversation, where it’s delivered by a soothing synthesized voice
This has been bugging me for the past week or so, it is definitely a bit rambly and… let’s say highly speculative, so be forewarned.
Back in spring I played the demo for a puzzle game named An Architect’s Adventure. Here is a link to its store page, including its trailer in case one wants to sneak a quick peak peak to get a quick idea what it is about:
It is a 3d sokoban where the twist is that when the blocks make contact with one another they sort of stick together in said shape. You need to take advantage of this to in general build bridges across water to the goal square. There is a 3d element as they don’t seem to stick together vertically, so you sometimes have them stacked upon one another and have to push them in way so that they “collapse” into a certain arrangement. There is an overworld made up of several islands, and each time you complete a stage it spawns a block that you can eventually use to build a bridge to the next set of puzzles. It is fairly basic to look at but the demo showed potential, added it to my wishlist.
This week I played a demo for a puzzle game named A Stoneman’s Adventure, link to its store page and trailer:
Another 3d sokoban, where the blocks stick together when they make contact and you have to build a bridge to the goal spot. This one is more built creating a line/shape of blocks by having them spawn behind you as you walk between a start and stop tile, but it is the same sort of goal of getting the blocks in a certain arrangement so that the bridge is the right size. It has an overworld on a set of islands, when you solve a puzzle it spawns a block that you eventually use to build a bridge to the next island and set of puzzles. Its demo also shows promise.
These games are not clones and play a bit differently, for example in Stoneman’s once a block goes over water it falls in and this can be used to break one bigger chain of stones into two smaller ones that can be moved independently (unless they get stuck together again). Also I found some of their dev logs and they’ve been in development long enough each that it seems unlikely that one is based off the other. It could be a case of parallel development, but there are a lot of similarities. Same basic concept taken in slightly different directions, the aesthetics while rougher in Architect’s case are going for the same thing, hence even their names have the very similar “A ______ Adventure” layout.
It makes me wonder if there is a common game that inspired both of them. Both are Chinese devs, both were active on itch earlier in their dev lives and into this flavor of puzzle game, it would not shock me at all to learn that the indie scene in said country has its own touchstone games that we are simply unaware of here. Granted that touchstone game in this case could be Stephen’s Sausage Roll with the rest being coincidence, but I’ve been stuck daydreaming about 3d sokobans halfway across the world I’ll never see all week now.
I just saw this but it got added to the brain file instantly:
…which is a level of furry worldbuilding I’d never even considered before.
“He’s called the Lamb of God, so obviously he was a sheep.”
“Well, Revelation 5:5 refers to him as the ‘Lion of the tribe of Judah,’ so clearly he was a lion.”
“That’s a metaphor.”
“Well, I think the whole lamb business is a metaphor instead.”
“The whole story of the passover and the entire Levitical priesthood hinged on the sacrifice of lambs, just like Jesus.”
“Yeah, but they also sacrificed other non-sapient animals like birds and such. The choice of animals was all just metaphorical.”
“Well Mr. Smart Ass, do you have any other evidence to support your position besides that one verse?”
“In the Gospels we see him frequently dealing with fish, whether catching them, eating them, or serving them. He was very clearly a cat of some sort, and in my mind a lion is the most obvious choice.”
“EVERYBODY EATS FISH WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?”
“Well, according to CS Lewis—”
“I DON’T CARE WHAT CS LEWIS THINKS AGSDHHAGSHAFSGHSFF—”
there were at least a dozen churches with a jesus foreskin relic so my bet is on some kind of regenerating salamander, maybe a planarian worm
going on a quest to collect the 12 holy foreskin fragments to bring Jesus back
Shy Guys are better than Koopa Troopas there I said it
Also Sniffits. Whatever happened to those little bullet-spitting kinksters anyways?
ninji imo
due to a series of mistranslations, jesus was commonly depicted as a hare in medieval europe but current thinking posits that jesus was likely a hyrax
I think Jesus had a prepuce like an onion bulb, many layers that were individually peeled away
Ogres! Are like! Divine prepuces!
