Castlevania (NES)
There were two releases of Castlevania for NES in the States: the first, called “PRG 0,” has a round, black Nintendo “Seal of Quality” on the front (photo from Castlevania - VG Legacy | Nintendo Entertainment System);
the second, called “PRG 1″ or sometimes “REV A” (although this is confusing because nearly all NES games say “REV A” on the back label), has a white, oblong Seal of Quality.
The version that comes in the recent “Castlevania Anniversary Collection” is based on the PRG 0 version, but modified to remove mention of Nintendo from the title screen.
The main difference between PRG 0 and PRG 1 is a fix for an occasional crash occurring around stage 15 in the PRG 0 version.
The crash was not in the original Japanese Famicom Disk System version, but came up due to the change from disks to cartridges for the NES release. It was fixed in the revised PRG 1 release in the States, and in the eventual Famicom cartridge version released in Japan (”Akumajou Dracula”–which was added to the Anniversary Collection, so play that Japanese version rather than the US one–text is still in English, plus, there’s an optional Easy Mode!–if you’re using the Collection).

In the Famicom version, you rotate blocks in just one direction, with Down on the d-pad. The A button hard-drops the block all the way down instantly. There is no soft-drop to make the block descend faster row-by-row.
The legalese on Famicom version’s start-up screen is illustrative of the complicated licensing scheme the owners had come up with prior to Nintendo eventually wrestling publishing rights away from most other holders.

Yeah, honestly, the only context I’ve ever seen that rumor brought up before this tweet was like transphobic gamers paranoically acting like they got tricked by fitgirl into breaking with their ethical code.

she didnt like empress before empress posted a 10 page long transphobic screed because empress has always been kind of a bitch and loves to throw annoying tantrums about repackers. That’s the main reason her and FG have beef, they used to be friends (if you look at FG’s RDR2 repack they shout out empress for giving them early access to the crack, for example) til empress started talking shit. The real reason a limited amount of people know how to crack denuvo is because certain people/the like, two groups that were doing it retired in the past few years over personal drama or burnout. “Fitgirl is trans” or “Empress is actually a group of Russian guys” are common things people speculate about with no proof and I would probably retire from cracking or repacking games too if people like this were talking about me all the time.

speaking of this, it reminds of me of how pple outside of chuds and channers use pepe’s now and sometimes in the most unlikely of circles. i remember being shocked when a black girl streamer had them as emotes. like the younger gen really doesn’t know the context and they’re like ’ i’m reclaiming ’ or ’ lol cute little froggie ’ because of tumblr chan memes or whatever.

I had a coworker constantly using a pepe emoji at me in slack and I did not know how to react. I was helping their team only part time and for a very limited time so I didn’t ever find time to get in a knock down drag out fight about it… but yeah they were a zoomer and were otherwise very kind to me and extremely normal politically so I just figured they’d absorbed it context-free from chan memes.
It drives me fucking nuts that people are doing this not even a decade after this character became a symbol for so much bad shit… but on some level maybe it’s good that a bunch of teens with absolutely no knowledge of or interest in those things have diminished evildoers’ ability to use it… I don’t even think they’re reclaiming it, I think the right wingers used the image too much and accidentally undermined its intended meaning themselves. But I’m no expert in all this shit. I’d still prefer my coworkers didn’t use it!!
