The Patreon thing gives me a feeling that 2 kinds of English speakers have stolen profit from Japanese owner, one stole with love and responsibility, while others without.

whatever was up with the quaint, even whimsical quality to the english localization of mgs3

ā€œdoes this pantywaist know what he’s doingā€
ā€œwhat should i find but a greasy freebooterā€
ā€œwhat is this fairy disguiseā€
ā€œour weak-kneed presidentā€
etc.

Apparently the localization was done by Japanese team members instead of Konami USA people. Tatsuya Suzuki handled script revisions on the original script and the localization team. If there’s some sort of Legends of Localization podcast out there I’d look for an episode where they talk to him.

that was something i thought i picked up on with 4. stuff like otacon saying ā€œonusā€ instead of ā€œburdenā€ or ā€œresponsibilityā€ felt like ESL japanese-to-english translation. mgs3 has lines that are so idiosyncratic and colloquial that i’d wondered if it was an attempt to evoke a sense of ā€œold fashionedā€ early 1960s vernacular

That’s honestly the only reason I learned what onus means. MGS4 teaching me vocabulary just like how Batman the Animated Series taught me vocabulary as a child

I don’t know if ā€œonusā€ happened in one of the chapters Adilegian worked on, but that is how he talks.

The majority of PokĆ©mon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire copies sold in Europe contained faulty chips and don’t work at all anymore. This is something that just never got addressed.

Dissidia would be really cool if you could be Ultros and Chupon and Bahamut and Marlboro and like… not Warrior of Light.

The more I discover, the more I learn that there’s a Patreon/PayPal/Hardware business model dominate them. And they need to keep posting big things for updating so fans will send money to them. That’s a struggle market, and they all with love in the beginning. But when they in the game, they have to keep announcing one project after another on social media, and if anyone questions them, they put on an attitude of this is so little money I can earn but in fact mostly that’s their full-time job, especially after 2020. It’s so natural that they’re using AI for their 100 customers (or even worst scenario, 1 customer who offer much more money than any others 99, unlucky the only one likes AI).

Having high expectations for them is largely because we still hold onto the good memories of Internet or gaming community.

it is good and virtuous to subscribe to certain patreons though

I don’t use Patreons, and Paypal in non-work but I like to read and try every game you recommend.
