videogame things you think about a lot lot lot lot

Chun Li and Ryu in this look like the inspiration for Jonny Negron’s whole style. He did one comic that was a lot like Final Fight.

I feel like both Ryu and Chun Li’s reaction might be due to their principled response to the appropriation of Khmer and Thai architecture and iconography for the purposes of megalomaniacal sort of like proxy-pride culture theft

Me too… at least B3313, of all freaking things, is still carrying the torch…

To me the most personally special of these things is that Glider PRO’s clocks all use your system clock

if you wait for it (and your console system time is initialized), a voice in the saturn version of SotN cheerfully tells you the (real) time. not present on PSX

the in-game clock face also reflects system time

the clock tower stage in marvel vs capcom 2, and that big hedge maze clock in nights, too.

actually, since all the mvc2 stages have variants at different seasons and times of day, i always thought it was a shame that they didn’t work the real clock into that.

I remember that in the past beat 'em up games were almost sync with crime in New York. Why they did that? I think about that because I watched tons of inside xxxx block/city in the US on YouTube, but seems no one put that in game, I still only see background of 80s crime background nowadays.

the answer is movies: the warriors, streets of fire, escape from new york, and lots of low budget italian knock offs of the above

Which themselves are a sort of genre response/reclaiming of 70’s > Reagan era crime paranoia like Dirty Harry and Death Wish

Halo 6: Return of the Scissored

*the Scissored are a new alien race introduced in Halo 6, described to be the ancient offspring of rampant Cortana and the ghost of Miranda Keyes. They are also known as the “Pre-Precursors” due to being the forerunners of the Precursors, and their tragic civilizational backstory is elaborated in an 8-book miniseries by Greg Bear. “We’re excited to awaken this ancient evil based on original Bungie design documents from Halo 3 and a dream I had” - Frank O’Connor
