videogame things you think about a lot lot lot lot

That really is the script every one of these people uses. What if we could talk about other things this way? Hey, you might not like my 2016 documentary Sarasota Half in Dream, but it’s here to stay, it’s going to become a central part of life, it’s going to transform society, it’s only going to become MORE important so you’d better study it if you want to stay relevant, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it!!

Games where Normal difficulty is really slack, whereas Hard difficulty is so punishing there’s barely any room left for player expression

There was an era when this happened all the time. X-Com EU, Halo Reach, and Link Between Worlds were all really good — except for the deceptively simple problem of never quite hitting the sweet spot on their stat spreadsheets.

Quite a vexing issue, especially since it’s so easy to imagine a variation of these games I’d enjoy more

i feel like the ff7 remake normal difficulty is kind of decently tuned… i’m usually wishing final fantasy games were a little more intense so of course i wish i could just get to hard mode but i still have to play these boss fights multiple times… it’s nice when a final fantasy makes you put a little effort in idk

The NPC in the right of this screenshot of Tales Of Vesperia has bothered me for the past 15 years, WHY does she look like that??? No other NPC in the entire game has a design as distinct as she does and she’s just… there in these early cutscenes and nowhere else (you can’t even talk to her!) I wished back then she’d have or own game or they’d at least be some reason for her overdesign but nothing

Space Invaders for Atari 2600 was the first time a home game company ever considered asking for permission to port a game officially. Before then everyone always just ripped things off without even asking.

oh god this game’s balance being a cakewalk on anything below classic difficulty but so overtuned as to be boring on classic difficulty is something I think about a lot

I feel like very few tactics rpgs from that brief period where the genre was popular again ever managed to have satisfying spreadsheets

how sonic saying two words in the sonic adventure commercial seems better voice directed than the entire game

I think the game may have been voice directed in Japan by people who don’t even know English.

sonic adventure is truly ancient anime dub era. recording the dub in 97 or 98 it’s quite literally “people you can find in the sega office and some of their relatives” to do some of the voices. the weird rashomon thing where everyone’s perspective has different lines in SA is just because they re-localized the same lines over and over again. the original shadow guy was just the sonic guy’s roommate. it was the wild west.

reminds me of how princess peach’s voice is iconic and known worldwide but it was originally literally just a woman on the localization staff at nintendo rather than a pro voice actor.

The epitome of bad voice acting done by people on the loc staff and their relatives:

I always think the SimCity 2000 cover is the original SimCity cover, never thought the original one is a handed simulator style.
