how there’s the good fromsoft wikis (wikidot) and the bad ones (fextralife)
the demon’s souls and dark souls wikidots are two of the best game databases of all time period (the former even got a nod from fromsoft i think)
and the latter has really clever dynamically posed images for a bunch of the weapons, like someone was having fun with these
yes… amazing stuff i would love to see more classic games get that treatment. i’ve spent a lot of time reading a bunch of pages on some of the shmup and fighting game wikis out there too, this kind of stuff is a real delight for a certain kind of gamer (me)
videogames and the experience of like interfacing with the medium started getting worse and worse once they entered the era of putting advertisements on console UIs
we have strayed too far from god’s light (Xbox 360 Blades dashboard)
It feels like every time I turn on my PS4 I have to delete some marketing shortcut they’ve shoved into my home page, truly miserable
Counterpoint: the short-lived era of putting dynamic real ads in games meant I got to blast a billboard for The Jeff Dunham Show in Saints Row 2 with the septic truck hose.
(But no it mostly sucks, a lot! The Switch UI is pretty slow and clunky and basic but it doesn’t tell me what’s in theaters, either, so I appreciate it for that)
That’s what John Carmack sounds like??
Yep!
The nerds’ nerd. Lifetime nerd achievement award
This is also why the new PS5 package of Siren is 21 gigs.
“trying to talk to a gamer makes you want to curl up and QQ”
fucking same! it’s definitely over a decade since i saw that clip and i remember nothing else about it, but that one line regularly comes back into my head
i just spent an hour trying to find it but it seems to have been wiped from the internet
so much for “once something is on the internet it’s there forever!!!”
Yeah, that’s just not true, as you say things get wiped.
I want to watch the Tatsuo Suzuki fuji promo video for the X100V, but Fuji took it down, and when someone else posted it on Youtube, Fuji copyright struck it, so now it’s gone for real.
If you google it you just get a bunch of links to the taken down video.
it’s more like a murphy’s law situation
it’s only there forever if you do not want that
it’s ephemeral if you actually wanted it
