Harumi Fujita might low-key be my favorite game music composer

i actually put this exact tune on one of my esoteric game music mixes

also here’s an alt link since that account seems to be down now:

the sims 1 soundtrack is a god damned masterpiece of video game music. unusual, functional, and reinforces the tongue-in-cheek nature of the game. the split between the Build Mode music and the Buy Mode music is integral to understanding how differently that game treats both modes, i.e. building is a serious business worth consideration, and buying is primarily an exercise in meaningless consumerism. the fact that the sims 2 has the same music for both modes is a sign of the game already being commodified and flattened and corporatized.

obviously i have thought about this a lot

has The Sims been…good?..this whole time?

maybe its just the nostalgia talking but most of the tracks composed by marc russo and jerry martin in TS1 are incredibly memorable, the later games branch out into weird licensed simlish versions of songs and overall have a much blander tone. I don’t think any of the composed tracks in the later games are exceptionally bad but they’re certainly not songs i want to come back to.

100%. The Sims rules forever.
