seconding mandalore gaming, i like his videos a lot. most gaming youtubers have really annoying edits and zooms and outbursts, but mandalore is just really straightforward, understands the games he plays, and doesn’t make a “good” or “bad” judgment so much as lay out the game for you

i used to watch this extremely intense 4x youtuber named filthyrobot. he taught me a lot about how to play civ competitively (lol). i haven’t watched him in a while (so i’m hoping he didn’t turn nazi like half these guys do) but if you’re into hyper-specific details of strategy games and a man with clearly too much intensity for the kind of game he’s playing, he might be up your alley https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_YIEAHP-damut98E6hQI9Q

Criken is still pretty funny if you ask me. He doesn’t so much do “let’s plays” as use games as material for sketch comedy but that’s at least, like, a plan; nothing is worse than the nasal, I think I’m funny but actually I’m not playthrough of a game with no narrative thrust or point to be made (you know, like my defunct youtube channel).

Of Criken’s stuff? Yeah maybe when I get home later. I don’t ever really rewatch his stuff, he’s been posting regularly for something like 8 years so there’s a lot to choose from.

Oh another one of my favorites is Rabbit’s Respawn, who very rarely makes commentaryless videos of clips of him being extremely good at action games

I like Joseph Anderson’s main youtube channel, and my need for something to have on in the background coincided with his descent into streaming, so I’ve fallen down that rabbit-hole. What made it so appealling in the first place was his dismissive attitude toward Twitch culture/memes and his rigorous no-spoilers policy, but what started as ironic acts of caricature have gradually become indistinguishable from the behaviors he was mocking in the first place. As such, I’m only here to endorse his (really long) reviews, because even as I don’t agree with him about half the time, I do find his arguments persuasive and worthwhile.

i’ve watched joseph anderson and could not disagree more. he’s the poster child for “guy who says nothing in as many words as possible”. his fallout analysis is particularly banal. i don’t know why his videos are over an hour long because he never makes interesting remarks, couches every bit of criticism in as much weasel language as possible, and generally sucks.

(also he’s a scam artist who ripped off contractors who created his channel branding but that’s another story)

he apparently played fallout 76 with mandalore (since he’s in that review) and it’s telling to me that mandalore had more charm and things to say in his brief review appearances than joseph did in the entire video
