really hate the hold buffer for jump in velgress. holding the button down longer to try to get a higher double jump and then i instantly jump off the next platform.

Rock On! Island is a really charming little tower defense game. I like setting up a chicken economy around a bonfire to feed all my little cave dudes. The starting village music is my favorite track in the game so far.

I keep thinking it’s called “Let’s Go! Island” because of “Let’s Go! Jungle”.

It’s really obvious how the Mini & Max main theme is just Spelunky earlygame music

I knew Rail Heist was neat going in, but finding out that if two lawmen are facing each other that you can trick one of them to waste their bullet shooting the other has kinda sold me on the game.

I also love the classic Gyromite/Lode Runner pre-stage panning shot.

Thinking about why I dislike Porgy so much, despite having beaten it, and realising the answer is “all the maps are just squiggly tunnels with little sense of place beyond the tileset”. The classic map design death knell.

got to the boss on ninpek and died the first time i ever played it, took me probably 20 more runs total, only making it to the boss like twice, and then the first time i cleared it i went on to clear the second quest on my first attempt and got my first cherry

I really love every game in this collection. It’s so satisfying to pick up each game and realize that I’ll get at least one solid hour of it

It’s certainly not my favorite game, but I got a real bee in my bonnet about Bug Hunter, and it became my first gold disk.

So many of my early runs were undone by an accidental button press.

It’s fun and clever, but it seemed like there was never any real escalation?

I would’ve made Rail Heist my first completed game, because that’s still maybe my favorite of what I’ve played, but honestly I like it so much that I don’t want to be out of new levels so I’m saving them for a dessert when I need one.

you would probably like Michael Brough’s 868-HACK if you haven’t played it already.

i hadn’t gotten back around to playing it again, but this is pretty disappointing if true. a game focused on a streak scoring should absolutely have escalation – otherwise it just becomes a marathon for skilled players which is something literally every other game in this collection tries to avoid. basically every Brough game has escalation, and most are implemented in very interesting ways (Cinco Paus being the crown jewel, here).

i keep on thinking about Rail Heist at work and wish that game in particular had a level editor

is Block Koala the only game in the set with one?

Seaside Drive was my first gold AND cherry and the secret is: staying at red charge actually makes it way, way easier. You should almost always be at red charge just from moving around and braking (except during boss 1) and the power increase allows you to kill enemies so fast that you’re only really in any danger during very specific sections. It’s definitely the easiest game in the collection.

To cherry you have to get every bonus level or you can’t hit the score goal, so basically a 1cc. Playtime says it took me about 3h to do that.

oh yeah, i’m not like stuck on it or anything – it’s one of about five i’ve cherried. just thought my initial experience was funny and also apparently the experience a lot of people had.

think big bell race was by far the easiest game for me – i cherried it on my first 12 minute playthrough.

i’ve been trying to cherry this game but keep missing the time slightly by getting lost. think i’ll have to pause and make a map next time i try lol. also there may be some interactions i still don’t know about…

So uh, how much have y’all been messing with the terminal because I started going down that road and it sure is a hell of a thing. Though uh, I think I might have broken part of it by accidentally sequence breaking.
