wait did Eirik Suhrke literally compose every piece of music in this game? holy shit.
i got all the gifts. you dont get anything extra and there’s no acknowledgment that i can see, which is a little disappointing but oh well! glad to see the pig man living a way swankier lifestyle than myself
Magic Garden is too fucking much for me. i feel like i’ve been in range to get a high score and then it’s like… i dunno 7 more hours of bumping into walls and bad guys and making no real progress. that’s kind of what i hate about these kinds of games - you can get lucky early on or you can attempt something a billion times and never get there. i learned some new strategies from watching a video or two but even implementing that is really really difficult.
Playing Vs. Waldorf’s Journey and it’s a fine reminder that video games should be about fat animals eating things
As someone who’s been in the 1CC grind pits for a couple of actual arcade games, I wanna say that the appearance of no progress and the appearance of “needing to get lucky” are often illusory, and that for the most part, you can wear down the task with plain patient trust that you are incrementally improving. Even “bad RNG” can, to a surprising degree, be worn down through familiarity, and you can improve your ability to navigate it, in ways that you can’t cognitively express or realise.
got to the final boss of seaside drive my first try but could not seal the deal
same happened to me!
Me, too, and when I tried it again I did much worse so I haven’t returned to the game since.
Also, Mortol really makes you work for every bit of progress.
yes, i had that experience too – i think what’s happening is when you don’t know how to play you’re way more focused on survival, but once you understand the game you want to shoot all the enemies and stay max charge which tends to put you in more precarious situations.
Anyway these are the ones I’ve won.
I think I might give it a rest at this point and maybe come back later when I feel like more small games. There’s no sense making it a marathon
I have only beaten one game but I am going to beat them all…
I do think I may be near the end of Pilot Quest at least
I will agree with the former but push back on the latter. I’ve played several hard games/parts of games where I either lucked into an early win or got close early on to not get such a fortunate RNG again for hours. I think more time definitely slowly pushes the odds in your favor but RNG can easily still be the overwhelming factor until you get to the point that you could basically beat the game blindfolded anyways.
i played Waldorf’s Journey for the first time and beat it on probably the 6th or 7th attempt. i really like the premise of it - both the physics platformer aspects and the fact that the whole thing is a dream that your walrus character has an important realization about if you reach the end. really neat framing. i also appreciate that one of these games was relatively easy to beat given how much time i’ve put into others. even though it was easy to beat i’d probably put it in my top 5 of games i’ve played so far.
i finally managed to break through on Magic Garden. i admit i didn’t actually know how to look to check for what the win conditions were until just now which didn’t help. but i got both the high score and won finally after a good 6 or 7 hours of playing it. it was good to see the characters resolve their differences - that witch must have been pretty fucking jealous to take so much pleasure from me bumping into walls for the 300th time. i don’t know if i want to go back to it any time soon, but i imagine it’s the kind of thing that’s fun to try to farm a high score in if you’re into that sort of thing.
edit: also i revisited The Big Bell Race and it turns out i misunderstood the controls (thought you needed to tap to stay in the air) and it turned out to be extremely easy. got a Gold on my first real attempt. i’ve heard this is by far the easiest game though but it feels nice to have completed six games now (Warptank and Barbuta i also finished).
Been thinking about how a lot of these could never have been made or given any attention on their own.
But in a group? Super valid. Interesting, even.
