i can not tap your own taste with any accuracy of course but my big opinion, which seems to have been validated by others here, is that SECRET HISTORY is a fun little videogame of a book. it is definitely self indulgent but i think not harmfully so. there is so much obvious love in the material of the thing that despite it being an excersize in self mythology, it travels in enough interesting directions to make for a good time. you definitely want the book object and not an audio performance or pdf, if any. it is not important fiction but it is fun “content” (lol)
FINAL DOSSIER on the other hand is dogshit in exactly the ways you suggest and not worth a glance.
frost is definitely an annoying twitter liberal but i think he is fine at finding certain kinds of stories when he gets outside himself a bit.
Yeah despite finding The Secret History kind of a distasteful project at its premise, I actually do think about a lot of the stuff that happened in it, so I guess I gotta give it to Mark for writing an entertaining and memorable lore book. It ain’t bad!
Was also mostly cold on Final Dossier but i did like the bit about an otherwise catatonic Annie seeming to answer the infamous question “How’s Annie?” with “I’m fine” as if she receives a radio transmission checking in on her from the black lodge every couple years
they’re going to build some development out in that place the mill is/was in. cannot reliably find out if the sheriff station is getting bulldozed or what but it’s currently the dirtfish rally school and they use that area for a track at the moment so don’t know what’s happening there. snoqualmie tribal people keep complaining how the whole land is toxic from it being a former saw mill and the way the development is going to happen they’re building on the one acceptable spot in the valley first and just kicking the can down on doing some theoretical cleanup process for the rest of the development later at some undefined vague date.
I just got the disc yesterday (half-off flash sale plus a coupon code made it cheap) and have not tried it out yet, but I guess a funny thing about using AI is that they’ll probably be able to do a better job a year or even a month later. Maybe this will have random dog faces like Deep Dream.
