I think the cold open of s2e8 of the wire is my favorite. I have to stop the episode to compose myself every time drunk mcnulty does anything on this show
disaster drunk mcnulty plus transmetropolitan by the pogues plays
David Simon is a hashtag resistance warrior now, rip this great show
Did anyone like Treme? Did anyone watch Treme?
Treme was really fucking good. And I donāt give a shit if David Simon is a resistance hack now, the show still holds up.
I just mean weāll never see another one out of him. But one or two great works is one or two more than Iāll ever make
Heard lots of mixed reviews about Treme, I need to check it out one of these days
i think treme isnāt much BUT itās got this fuckin actor in it i hate his guts AND i kind of think the wire is overrated nowadays SO
I watched maybe two seasons of it, and itās⦠like. If youāre in it for story, you are gonna be annoyed because hours and hours roll past and nothing happens. (Which may be part of the point.) Itās pure character and location study, and half the characters (like that white kid) are deliberately irritating. But thereās lots of nice human observation stuff in there, right.
And Elvis Costello.
at this point I am almost certain that Ed Burns is the reason The Wire is so good, not Simon
I dunno if itās an adaptation issue solely but Locke & Key canāt decide if itās Lemony Snickett or Riverdale. Which like, I donāt hate? I suppose whimsy and childlike wonder can coexist alongside teen angst and conveniently survivable danger.
I feel like itās very videogamey, at least the whole conceit of the keys and how they are located/used.
I think it was on Twitter a short while ago there was some conversation and consensus that yeah, on the basis of the exact nature of Simonās Resistance flame-out presence on social media and some other factors, Ed Burns is very likely what made The Wire work as well as it did. Lots of examples of astonishingly bad character moments Simon wanted, that Burns guided him away from.
Yeah you would like it. I did. Ultimately it loves the troops too much but itās quite critical even of the grunts for its time. Favorite part is when the actual soldiers make fun of all the weekend warriors called up from the reserves tryharding with their tacticool rifles and fucking everything up
Lmao you would absolutely love it. Ray is my boy
Generation Kill rules, a whole lot of nothing happens with copious bullshit and dialogue to fill the gaps
been watching the young pope and i remember a lot of people saying it was fucking wild at the time but not so many saying it was really good? people have talked upthread about the meditations on faith and loneliness etc but i also like how itās so visually sumptuous that i simply canāt be distracted by my phone
absolutely love young pope, itās seriously great
there was a real dud like three or four episodes into new pope so i fell off, gotta lick it back up
we accidentally started with the first scene of the new pope and between that + the memes i was totally unprepared for what the young pope was actually gonna be about lol
god i forgot how hard the wire descends into fantasy once hamsterdam starts
Season 5 is so much worse than the people who say itās the worst season even acknowledge
season 5 was so bad it made me question how good the first 4 were
3 and 4 are just, like āoutdated policy recommendations, literalizedā
