I’ve watched 3 episodes of Green Frontier (Netflix).
Not sure what to make of it, yet. Its reaalllly dry. Which is kind of refreshing. They don’t try to juice anything up with dramatic music or anxious camera shifts or anything. Stuff just happens and it almost feels underacted, because of the straightforward presentation. I’m not quite sure the show has yet fully revealed what its actually doing. But, there is a supernatural aspect to it.
The protagonist is like a direct female replacement for the usual man who will quietly do whatever it takes. She’s got a husky voice, wears simple, functional clothing. Slept with a dude just to get info out of him. And yelled at a police chief and told him she’d fuck him up. And she has great eyebrows.
The image quality is pretty superb. It takes place in the jungle and 90% of the time its like reference grade image quality. Striking an interesting trade between filmic depth and squeeky clean modern. So, no grain, holds shy of being super detailed. But has great color and contrast balance. And while there is a slight shift to the image I can’t quite put my finger on: color isn’t super processed. It feels like its all there.
Still covering what the movie (The Golden Compass0 covered. But, I’m really digging in with the casting. I had forgotten about one of the twists and it was able to hit me hard enough, because some earlier scenes had memorable subtlety to later lend meaning to the twist.
Its a good, very watchable show. However, after episode 2, there kind of isn’t a reason to keep watching. It stays exactly as solid, but the main gimmick gives way to fairly well trod ground of parenting, marriage, being a teen. Its a little too slickly produced for its own good. However, the casting is great and the production does allow them to express some character.
There’s a new A Christmas Carol 3 hour miniseries. I watched it and its pretty darn good. I had no expectations and found it quite enjoyable. Its surprisingly dark and gritty. Lots of claustrophic camera lenses, dirt, snow, haze. And Guy Pearce chewing on his dialogue.
Found the Mr. Robot finale pretty satisfactory. I’ve had enough Rami tears in pore focus for at least a couple years though, will be glad to see his Bond villain chops among other roles.
I was curious about the Until Dawn experience before realizing he’s in it, possibly high time.
I watched the whole first season of You and I found it pretty funny, a lot of the time? Like I appreciate that the Serial Killer Criminal Mastermind is actually a huge fuckup
