this has inspired a bit of faith but i’m kind of disturbed that a show about a guy whose job description is ‘kills monsters’ has a trailer with like, one split second shot of one poorly lit monster in it
Seems like CG is worked on to the last minute, nowadays. Its likely those visuals aren’t yet ready to be seen.

Ah ha so in Episode 5, Ginger Gonzaga is now in the show. She is/was dating Jim Carrey and plays a big role in Kidding. ha!
She may have been in previous episodes, but she’s in ep 5 a lot.

watched the witcher trailer and turned it off as soon as gerald said ‘i’
sorry but like, one of the biggest character traits TO ME was how gerald hated pronouns and would super rarely, if ever refer to himself
he always says stuff LOTS OF CORPSES. PROBABLY MURDER. or SMELLS OF MUCOUS MEMBRANES.
or like someone is like ‘hey witcher whats the picture’ and he’ll never say ‘IM fine’ hed be like ‘THICK WITH MONSTERS TODAY. MAKIN BOMBS’
the fucking first line he said started with ‘I’ and I couldn’t handle it!

i know i have already posted vaguely positive stuff about Into the Badlands before, but the last 8 episodes just arrived on netflix and i’m so happy
my latest pitch to get people to watch this show is, “What if you were a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but you’re all grown up now?” and that’s basically the entire show

it definitely doesn’t have the same energy but i dig it
getting rid of Quinn was narratively the right thing to do (even if there was never a satisfying payoff for the weird brain tumor plot), but there hasn’t really been anyone to match his psycho energy since then. The S3 plot is definitely more reminiscent of stuff like Avatar for better or for worse. There is a weird phase where it becomes super episodic for a few episodes, too, which Avatar also did really well. But at this point it just seems like they are intent on making the Pilgrim story the only thing going on and it’s not as good. I really like the dude who plays Moon though, and he’s much better as a sort-of-ally than antagonist.
is anyone watching uh…Watchmen? lol.
i am currently not. one friend said it is surprisingly good, and described some things that sounded interesting, but then another friend tweeted out a whole lot of stuff that makes the show sound like some kind of insane mess. i mean, i expected the worst of it, but i’m vaguely curious?
soundtrack is pretty nice, though.
Yeahhh I gave up on it after the latest one. It’s like two completely different shows - one that’s kind of about race, one that’s Watchmen 2 - and neither is good.
Some interesting elements here and there, good acting and tons of polish, but as far as the actual story, it just isn’t pulling it off for me.

I watched all eight episodes of Living with Yourself.
I liked it, but I was also a little disappointed. I was expecting it to be a fully complete self-contained story over eight episodes. A one season show that intends to be one season. It’s not. It’s very clearly a one season show that isn’t sure if it’s going to be just one season or not. By the end of the season there are a lot of little things that happen without any payoff, and the ending is the sort of ending it would be easy to continue on from. If there aren’t anymore episodes it doesn’t feel like it didn’t get an ending, but it doesn’t feel anywhere near as tight as it could have been had they committed to being a one season show.

it is a watchmen sequel directed by damon lindelof, and it is very much both of those things. I think that makes it worth watching so far, but I wouldn’t get invested

I was hoping the wife did get cloned when they faked us out about that. Because Aisling Bea is pretty funny with a physically animated style of standup and I would have liked for her to have had a funny clone.

I watched the first two episodes of His Dark Materials and its solid. The oldish movie The Golden Compass is based on the His Dark Materials books.
I always liked The Golden Compass the best, out of the swell of young fantasy movies trying to get after the Harry Potter money machine. I thought the casting was very good and I also thought the story was the most intriguing.
So far this BBC show is basically a remake of the movie and based on my foggy memory of the movie: is more or less exactly as good. Albeit with more time to setup some other stuff which the movie passed over, due to time constraints.
The casting is also quite good. The two very good standouts are Dafne Keen (Lyra), which you may know as the Wolverine girl in Logan. And Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter. I’ve seen her in a couple of movies, including Dark River and she is really good. She’s been in other stuff too, like Luther and The Good Wife.
Also, Lewin Lloyd who plays Lyra’s best friend Roger, is also quite good. I often have a hard time connecting with young children characters on screen. But these kids emote really well and get past simply reciting lines.
I’m not a James McCovoy fan. So…I’m a little disappointed with him as a replacement for Daniel Craig, from the movie.
