have you ever wanted to see noted character actor robert carlyle in something good instead of being the only good part of something crap? This is the movie for you. Have you ever wanted to see a movie about the underlying cannibalistic properties of westward expansion and colonialism? This is the movie for you.
I watched all 6 episodes of Spicy City, Ralph Bakshiâs HBO animated adult neo-noir stories. adult in the sense that the characters have jobs they hate, and drink and smoke and curse, as well as tits
Michelle Phillips from The Mamas and the Papas does the voice for the sultry host. thatâs probably the most notable thing about it. best episode was Tears of a Clone with the ambiguous ending hinting at the relationship between belief and authenticity, and plays like a cyberpunk one-shot
and plowing through Gravity Falls after bathtime before bedtime. I though Kristen Schaal was a terrible casting choice in the first episode and now Mabel is clearly the best character. it is all thanks to writing
love that Grunkle Stan is a bad guy but not the bad guy
Partially because it just came up itt, but lots of parts of severance feel weirdly reminiscent of x files, at least tonally/aesthetically. The parts outside the office at least. I think at the time I described it as a series length twilight zone episode shot in the style of the X Files. Lots of moody wintery landscapes and hushed phone conversations w mysterious strangers
Severance is so fuggn good, I share everyoneâs fears that it even got a second season. Thereâs a lot of great stuff left to do, it just depends on if theyâre willing to move into new territory or if thisâll be a rehash of the first season in perpetuity.
On the other side of the quality spectrum, I continue to subject myself to FROM, a series that is extremely clearly trying to be Lost again, to the level of having Harold Perrineau as the lead and just stacking mysteries with no attempt to cohere any of it. I am having a great time.
There are several particularly good actors here tasked with the challenge of saying âWe have to calm down and figure out whatâs going on hereâ every 15 minutes for going on two full seasons now. If some semblance of order is ever achieved, a venomous monster bird or goblinoid creature will appear to terrorize them, kill off a character, then itâs back to everyone freaking out until Harold Perrineau comes out and tells everyone âWe have to calm down and figure out whatâs going on here.â
It gives me the vibe of a modern M. Night Shyamalan movie in a way I sort of love. Entering into it knowing this will never fucking make sense and itâs just a bunch of rats in a maze has made me just focus on the performances, which are broadly-speaking great. Terrible, fun show.
Been putting jeopardy on to sleep because i get too into watching price is right or supermarket sweep and want to play. But iâve just been watching Alex trebek episodes on utube. I really like when they just show the whole broadcast, commercials included, because itâs fun to look at like the cultural artifacts of a time when i was too young and dum to pay attention to anything. And theyâre usually not broadcasts from the area i grew up in so i get to see how Vancouver was really worried about âyouth violenceâ on November 6, 1995. Also these commercials are somehow way less offensive than modern ones. On this one iâm watching right now this actress named Lynn Redgrave is drunk af, itâs awesome
