TV AfterParty

oh man, I was worried that since it was supposed to start production last summer the movie might be dead after the strikes, but it looks like not only does it appear to be heading to production sooner rather than later, both donald glover and yvette nicole brown are back

We’re rewatching the show here and I do forget how many post-Glover bangers there are. Just finished the MeowMeowBeenz episode.

that 5th episode of night country convinced me the rookie killed annie just with hawkes’s glance over

So, completely and utterly unlike parker is what you’re telling us

I definitely feel less happy the more I look at a screen

I have my children, parker has his rig. The way to make parker John Wick you would be to delete all his crt shader settings

a computer man exercising restraint seems so rare today it should probably be cherished

ironically, there does not appear to be any discussion of the tv show The Afterparty in this thread

It’s pretty good! We gave up on Mythic Quest after it became apparent that its particular flavor of toxic work environment is just like, unnecessarily close to home and too stressful for light evening entertainment. it doesn’t help that it is also just… not particularly competently executed and doesn’t have that many good jokes.

The Afterparty is much better–basically feels like a show made by the old millennials who for some reason felt excluded from the cross generational hijinks of Only Murders in the Building. (I consider Selena Gomez to be like a Millennial/Gen Z cusp type figure)

The first season is stronger and overall funnier, but both are good. Well, the second is good so far, though I’m not sure what could happen to ruin it in the final two episodes we haven’t seen yet. My impression of S1 was marred somewhat by the fact that I was really enjoying Ben Schwartz’s turn as a non-problematic supportive friend and felt kind of betrayed by their decision to make him the culprit. On the bright side, it did I guess allow him to do something slightly different with basically the exact same self-absorbed character he always plays. I was just kind of hoping he was finally going to get to play a guy who is like… the way he is without having some kind of sinister dark side to it. I guess maybe I should watch Sonic the Hedgehog?)
So I feel like the only way they could make the second series worse would be making Paul Walter Hauser’s guy somehow turn out to be the killer, who is also like strangely charming in his role as a wannabe hard boiled detective who is actually just an idiot redditor. Though I guess all of this is in keeping with my latest theory about tv/movie murder mysteries, which is that the person giving the most interesting performance always ends up being the killer

I just finished the first season of Flowers. The whole time I was wondering what was up with the Japanese illustrator character who feels like racist caricature from another era with his broken English and the R/L transposing thing marring up what is otherwise a pretty outstanding show, and now that I’m allowing myself to look up stuff about it, I find out that actor is the creator/writer of the whole thing. Oh!

And then I find out the actress who played the way cool daughter has since been swallowed up by the Marvel machine.

I am (once again) watching the best tv show, Night Music, for which I’ve assembled what seems to be the most comprehensive playlist here:

It was so jarring that I thought for sure it was going to come out that that character was doing some sort of act or something.

This is the only recently made comedy series thing that I’ve watched since Painting with John if that’s enough of a recommendation (or an anti-recommendation)

Amazon dropped The Avengers right as we got into rewatching the color episodes, and I needed something else in a pinch to watch with my parents when I’m over there doing laundry. That’s about the only time I watch traditional tv series sorts of things.

This reminds me so much of how whenever I see the Jimmy Fallon show with my family I wish it was The Roots just jamming with whoever shows up. I know Questlove has his radio show, but I want to see everybody put some jam on it.

not really sure how to feel about the halo tv show’s first major character deaths being three black men, two of which we only got to see characterized in the past few episodes. vannak went from being like an asshole cardboard cut out guy to having pet birds with rhyming names and talking about watching nature documentaries. a good illustration of why the mkultra pellets they give the spartans are bad, so naturally HE MUST DIE now that you want to know more about him, I guess. at least bokeem woodbine is still here, though they certainly had to contrive the circumstances to get him with the chief

God, I was thinking this too. None of these were necessary deaths, but the show needed characters to die, so they fed three black characters who had just started getting good right into the wood chipper?

Louis being blind and not ā€œhaving useā€ in the battle short of sacrificing himself immediately also felt real bad? And the show also killing its gays at the first opportunity?

Vannak’s death in particular just had me shaking my head. He really has had one of the more compelling arcs of the spartans. Why kill him off for THIS? Ugh.
