Yeah, the box art is what I know the game for. I’m pretty sure I posted this in Dope Box Art or something a long while back.

Our friends at Atarimania.com have informed us of the recovery of an unreleased text adventure for the Atari 400/800 called The Ronin which has been missing for 39 years. A game that was intended for release eventually by Brøderbund Software, who had acquired Synapse Software at the time.

interesting, do you know what the need is for a different site? i have no idea about the inner workings of RHDN and i suspect that’s probably what spurred this

Had someone ask me about an NES/Famicom

game I played back then. The name is “Mario 6” and I’m almost sure it’s a sprite-swapped bootleg of something else since it’s in the usual famicom cartridge. The only thing I remember clearly about it is that Mario can transform to a snale to scale walls and ceilings.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

There’s a what seems to be widespread “Super Bros. 6” hack of Mario into NES Tiny Toon Adventures but, skimming videos of it, I don’t see any snail transformations in that one.

i have heard (in person as a kid and online as an adult) that some folks played a hack of Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa labeled as Super Mario 4. i know Upa can scale walls and walk on ceilings, so…possibly related.

I had this experience as a kid thanks to the local rental place that also had the actual SMB 3 several months before the US release, so it 100% was a thing.
