What’s the appeal of the game? What’s the story, who’s it by?
It’s Koei and I don’t know very much about it
I faintly remember someone on sb1 telling me it was western rpg like in the somewhat nonlinear design and emphasis on sidequests.

The game’s unusual features lie in its scenario system. The player creates the main character by choosing his or her gender, answering a few moral questions, and choosing the initial location. Depending on these combinations the initial quest will be different, though after a while all the prologues merge into a single main plot. Despite being largely linear, this plot can be affected to a degree by decisions made by the player. Locations can be visited by selecting a destination on the world map. Each trip takes a certain amount of time, which must be taken into consideration in conjunction with the events of the main plot.
The player is also free to complete quests in any order. Plot-dictated events (e.g. outbreak of a war) will normally occur regardless of the player’s input. Important characters may stay alive or die depending on the player’s choices and level of involvement in their personal quests. In addition, towns offer guild quests coming in five varieties - delivery, escort, discovery, slay, and rescue. These quests may open new areas and grant the party experience as well as special Soul points, which are used to steer a character in a direction corresponding to a certain class.
The lead character also has unique attributes such as bravery, kindness, etc. These attributes may be affected by the player’s choices and also influence the hero’s relationships with other characters. These relationships are measured according to the emotion of the character in question, ranging from hatred to adoration, and eventually determine the character’s fate during the story’s conclusion.
apparently that’s a sloppy machine translation which is a shame. the game has a ton of text apparently, someone’s been working on a translation for the psp port for quite a while
Oh that’s a bummer, the same person is translating Hungry Ghosts which i was looking forward to.
Using these machine translation tools to try to publish something is so backwards. Be brave enough to edit it. Try to be an author.
It’s weird, too, because aren’t translators way more common in the scene than people who can hack the games?
The chatbots and generator engines fill me with a profound sadness but continued progress in machine translation is wholly positive, imo
yeah like you can use the damn translator but just go back and make the sentences make sense! curate the AI at least
I genuinely feel like Japanese machine translation has regressed significantly with the advent of machine learning
it’s not a machine translation, it’s just an amateur translation
edit: looked into it and yeah, it’s ESL folks translating the game into English, so there’s a lot of clumsy writing and they desperately need a native speaker to at least edit their work

This game sounds awesome
oh man if mother 3 came out now there would be a forum split over people playing the instantly released machine translation and the people waiting for the tomato people to translate it (while all the japanese speakers make fun of everyone)

This is my day job, so I feel like I should really do this
but I know as soon as I commit to it, all my free time will vanish instantly
it’s not a game, but it is a vaguely game-related translation of interest
