Translations and ROMhacks II

Don’t recall if this ever got posted, but there’s a thread on RHDN where people are fixing some of the gameplay changes Working Designs did to games they localized.

https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=23436.0

It also means you can also play Lunars on the Sega CD without it being IN ALL CAPS ALL OF THE TIME. With pentagrams. ⛤

Also patches to fix gameplay changes in Popful Mail, Vay, Cosmic Fantasy 2, Exiles 1 and 2, Magic Knight Rayearth, Alundra, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Eternal Blue Complete.

Graphics programming for games is nice like that, you get very obvious errors that look cool.

Work in AAA and everything breaks with horrifyingly photo-realistic humans: skin replaced by teeth or hair textures, bones wildly distending, contortions when characters perform animations designed for entirely different skeletons

Has someone ever worked that into a game? I think there’s a lot of potential there.

indie games have only just moved from aestheticizing raster and crt tracking errors onto lowpoly vertex glitch and pframe duplication type stuff so give it 5 years maybe

  • No more text when you touch certain objects. Rocks, cracked rocks, pots, ice blocks, etc.
  • Guardian Acorns and Pieces of Power are quick pickups. No more long text interrupting game play
  • No more low health beeping

Mario’s Photo Studio (or Mario no Photopi) is a photo editor and print design software. It allows adding frames, clipart, licensed content, text, and personal drawings to photographs. The result can be printed by creating an FDI (Fujifilm digital image) print request you can take to a Fujifilm print studio or specialized kiosk.

The only reasonable method for play requires using an original cart. You can either use a passthrough method such as the old Bung backup units or (haha) attempt to switch out the MaskROM on its board. The patch has been tested on console with a Doctor V64jr.

amazing

“Bung” is the approximate pronunciation of the company’s Chinese name 邦谷. Both written forms were used in product packaging and marketing literature, and the somewhat crude connotation of the English word appears to have been an unintended coincidence.

the problem is this game has like, the goofiest dudes.

SRT OG Saga: Endless Frontier’s sequel finally has an english translation. Not on romhacking dot net (yet?).

it’s lesbians, actually, but yeah the characters are generally pretty weird looking

My bad! I saw it, and immediately thought of goofy Gustafa, and didn’t read the whole description.

The bacheleorettes in AWL are pretty boring, though, outside of Nami.

Shiren 2 (N64) English fan-translation is making good progress: http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=8495.0
last update about a week ago, release date currently set for some time next year
the author also mentions ongoing work on N64 VN Getter Love

That’s awesome! I’ve always been bummed at the lack of Shiren translations.

oh wow, i have definitely lamented lack of same multiple times on here, super hype for shiren 2 patch to exist.

goofy Gustafa

seems like the author’s original intent was a gay patch since the original release had both straight flavours, so that’s coming as well

Nami

i remember before a wonderful life came out, people were super pissed off that natsume were possibly going to change nami’s name to “naomi” or something (which who gives a shit, they change the names in pretty much every game), and then the game came out and she was still “nami”. the end.
