Some investigation about how Big.Little plays out on M1. Seems to be effectively the exact reverse of what I’ve seen happen on less-tuned implementations
this is also a great example of something that everyone says only apple can do, is a result of their incredible vertical integration, etc., except it’s not at all clear why the windows or linux kernels couldn’t / shouldn’t improve their scheduler code
I do know that my ancient ivy / pascal desktop bluescreens almost immediately if I try to enable the GPU scheduler that bypasses the windows kernel entirely but I’m definitely overloading the old PCIe bus so, fine

Looks like Windows does support a similar thing but Intel Big.Little equivalent only started coming out last year and not in very many notebooks yet: Windows 10 Scheduler Aware of "Lakefield" Hybrid Topologies, Benchmarked | TechPowerUp
Just had a maddening tech support call wherein they tried to tell me a speaker needed specifically 5V 2.1A over USB and my three different 5V 2.4A AC adapters would not do. They then asked if I had “the 10W iPad brick.”
I don’t like the future Apple made.

Is it possible to get component video out of a 4 yet?
I don’t know how much stock I put into this because retropie was barely working on the 4 without a bunch of extra effort when this was posted

nervously eyeing the growth of Chia and the shrinking free space on my NAS and wondering if I should splurge on some new drives super early so I’m not (completely) screwed in a year

you should still be able to get SSDs since generating the file for Chia kills the drive controllers (and not the NAND like you would assume)
SSDs are good for NASes, right

right now price-performance is pretty iffy above ~14TB but they’re forecasting ridiculous multi-platter 100TB drives in the next decade, I have no idea whether those will be at all consumer friendly

I need to get a bigger hard drive soon to replace my 6TB HD. I’m thinking about splurging and going for the 8TB 870 QVO SSD. Is QLC really that bad? All I need is for it to be more responsive/performant than a 7200RPM desktop HD. I will have certain windows directories like Documents mapped to it just like I do on my mechanical hard drive. I’m not dumb enough to ever use it as my OS drive. I just get really annoyed when I go to play a media file and have to wait for the mech drive to spin up.
doesn’t feel like a great buy for the price honestly, that’s like more than double the cost of an almost doubly sized hard drive
it’ll definitely be more performant, but 12-14TB drives are also surprisingly more performant than a lot of the 3-6TB drives I’d used in the past, and sticking yourself with the product category of “I need an SSD >6GB” is just not a great way to spend money
