I know you’re looking for a really easy solution, but I cannot express how great it is having the “I sometimes do stuff” stuff in a desktop that I just connect to via Parsec. I can do all my work on my Thinkpad, and when I want to play a game or use a DVD drive I just load up Parsec. The keyboard is already as good as it’s going to get, and the form factor is great. I might upgrade later for a better trackpad, but I use a mouse anyways. It’s pretty great?

i finally set up my plex server(i rly need some more shows to put on here)

it took me a really long time to get everything setup but I learned a lot about linux and a bunch of other esoteric computer stuff in the process

if any of you have a lot of movies / tv files to sort through and make prettier or want advice setting up one of these systems on the cheap lmk

Plex is out, Jellyfin is in

they are all equally good/awful so it’s no big deal what you choose, I got sick of Plex hiding auto-fetched subtitles as gzip’d blobs in a separate database making it a pain to correct homophone confusion of transcribers lacking the rich linguistic background of the British isles (crack → craic)

Jellyfin’s metadata matcher is just the worst

Just get a Fujitsu?
In Japan the laptops are all either super expensive new or super cheap used.
Fujitsu laptops are no exception, but tend to be all around nicer in all the little ways at any given price point (keyboard, noise level, ect).

I’m trying to stream to my PC to a raspberry pi 4 via moonlight. I’ve got my PC hooked up wired to this AT&T router/modem combo and the raspberry pi hooked up via WiFi. The pi seems to have a good solid connection with a consistent 70mbps download speed, but I’m still getting a lot of stuttering even at 30fps /720p. Is this normal? Would getting a different/better dedicated router make this situation any better?

wireless–

try it with a cable from the RPi to the router and see if that helps. streaming is really sensitive to interference, a download doesn’t t mind if a few packets are delayed for a couple of milliseconds but remote play cares a lot

you need a pretty good router if you want to do wireless : wireless – I’m not sure if 70mbit is your measured speed to the router or outbound, but tbh if you aren’t wiring one or the other device, you should really have, like, 700mbit+ to the router on both to avoid drops

and iirc the pi 4 is 1x1ac, which means it maxes at 433mbps – could work if you have mu-mimo and an otherwise interference-free environment, but probably you’ll need something wired in that setup no matter what

Today I installed a new bidet with a blow dryer. It also has a remote with an LCD and a d-pad that feels like it should have a game on it.

Brick your bidet by trying to install doom on it

I’m sure there’s already a retroarch port

a bidet is just the kind of fussy frivolous appliance I want to want, but I actually enjoy having a dry, abraided hole

Also smh using a physical exfoliant, it’s 2021, use a beta hydroxy acid on your ass

Is it easy to install a bidet? I rent and I worry I might cause trouble. I don’t want my life to get ruined cuz I failed at installing a bidet.

it’s very easy if you know how to shut your water off and you have an outlet that it can reach

if you have to do electrical work or you flood your bathroom it’s somewhat less easy

It is very easy if your toilet has its own water shutoff valve. You just add a Y joint between the tank and the wall to supply the bidet.

You really ought to have a grounded “GFCI” outlet to plug it into and adding one of those is probably not a DIY job for most people but I’ve incidentally had outlets I could use for this in my last three apartments.
