hmmm, well, that’s too bad, but what can I do
A coworker of mine just bought a prebuilt PC with pretty decent specs (Ryzen 7 3700x, 16GB, 1tb SSD, RTX 3070) for a really decent price. The video card is DOA. Apparently Gigabyte just put out a large batch of defective 3070s. What a shame.
Increasingly glad that a replacement SSD solved my computer problems for the foreseeable future
Yeah this really sucks and I don’t know what kind of dedicated AP is good anymore
Why would Ubiquiti do this when I’ve never heard of a regular consumer router doing it? I’m baffled.
up to a point adding more features that act like SaaS seems like a value add over an intranet-only portal, ubiquiti straddles a weird premium category, and I think they took it too far
I was looking forward to seeing their 6E hardware but in like 2 years minimum so I guess they have time to think this through
it’s me, the dedicated MikroTik rep for this webscape. they’re labi (if you think IOS is ok)
Sorry, what does this mean? Literally all I’m getting from search engines are acronyms and “did you mean labia?”
lol
jesus, i was just thinking about looking for a 10GbE switch this weekend and maybe check out what Ubiquiti has to offer, and commentators curse has struck already.
tronyell in fontsize 96…
scan actually had some stock of 3070s for an hour or two this afternoon but they were £750
How does one buy a monitor online sight unseen? I’m tempted to just grab another viewsonic from microcenter’s site because I loved my old 1440x900 one, but I’m not sure what’s important feature-wise.
I have an amd card so freesync? 1ms response time sounds good? I do a lot of video work and I’ve seen lower hertz ones sold for that whereas the really high refresh rate ones are branded for gaming?
RTings has the most detailed reviews
Do you need certain color profiles for the video work? That’d be the easiest criterion to select for
I’m generally just working in plain old srgb but maybe I shouldn’t be?
Can’t really say re: color. Typically you just want to be on the same page as your collaborators and the media.
IPS is the best LCD technology for color but it comes with “bleed” and or “glow” that make dark scene uniformity when viewed in dark rooms poor.
You can get IPS with high refresh rate without compromising too much on either but the really low response time is only on TN panels with inherently bad color and contrast. You’re looking at 8ms or so on a good 144hz IPS panel or around 120hz with most frames drawn without artifacts.
1440p on a 27” is the sweet spot imo with a little more density than 1080p on a 24” but still manageable for 3D rendering without top end hardware.
I have the ASUS VG27AQ and appreciate its ability to do variable refresh rate and black frame insertion (for better perception of motion) simultaneously. @parker has the newer revision and posted upthread about disliking the IPS glow.
If you’re under ~$200 you may look at 60hz models with better panels for color rather than 144hz models with TN panels.
Good monitor deal right now with the downsides being a merely OK stand. Ignore the HDR part.

The i5-11400f is $125 cheaper than the 5600x and within 10% of its performance. Maybe AMD will find some non-X chips in the back.
