also declining because it sucks now
Yeah I’ve had to disable it’s notification permissions everywhere because it constantly harasses me to upgrade my plan or upload my photos or support war in the middle east or whatever
I was just given a free RX 580 8GB. Is it worth swapping with my 1060 3GB in the DiRT Rally machine? Those two seem neck and neck from what I’ve seen. But maybe 8GB of memory is a nice advantage?
Generally the 8GB is going to pay off at higher resolutions, but I found this article that should give you a good idea across different games.
I would expect newer games without specific Nvidia optimizations to run faster on the RX 580. I’d keep it and sell the 1060 3 GB while prices are still wonky.
Lol AT&T fiber is corrupting all of their customers’ packets and has been for weeks
I got the following output from two runs of that script:

I don’t know what this means but I imagine it results in illegally downloaded mp3s to sound like they came off of Kazaa 20 years ago?
It would’ve done that 20 years ago, but now that 95% of traffic is encrypted, it mostly just results in stuff slowing down and occasionally failing to load. The decryption algorithms don’t tolerate any corruption at all and will request a resend when it happens
Is that what changed since those early days? Encryption? The more you know…
Apple keeps backporting decent features to all of the T2 (2018 and newer) macs like this pseudo HDR mode while continuing to try as hard as they can to forget the 2016-2017 models exist. Glad I wound up caving and getting one when I did because my previous machine would def not have lasted until what turned out to be last month to get an M1.
meanwhile, tweet man casually has 15k worth of apple hardware sitting on his desk
i’m not sure what you mean by casually, looks like making film editing software for macs is his career?
oh
I guess that doesn’t explain the phone, but we all have our crosses to bear
Upgrade fever is killing me, and it’s impossible to find new hardware. So my solution was to buy a 6950x on ebay to drop in this X99 build I have. Should be a nice upgrade from the sketchy engineering sample Xeon it’s currently running.
I pulled the trigger on a dan a4 on ebay this week b/c I saw a 4.1 with the asetek AIO loop for a decent price, plus I now have the wifi 6e m.2 card and the new sfx 750w PSU
starting to build toward a new machine though I don’t really want to buy CPU/GPU/mobo yet
how
For the record, this totally worked! Was pretty painless! Had a brief period where I couldn’t figure out why the new build wasn’t posting, then by looking up the LED error codes for the new motherboard realized that it was in fact posting, just not finding bootable media, and the reason that I wasn’t getting the BIOS screen was because my monitor was still expecting the DVI connection from my old machine rather than the HDMI from the new machine, and while I’d thought I’d switched it, I’d forgotten that my monitors require a ‘confirm’ button press after selecting a new input, which had totally thrown me last time I did hardware upgrades and which I’d completely forgotten about.
I know next to nothing about overclocking. I set the CPU multiplier to 38 in this MSI x99 BIOS for my 6950x and rebooted. Playing DiRT Rally, all cores show 3500MHz except core 5 which shows 3800MHz. Seems uh… fine? It’s stable and cool with the beefy AIO water cooler I have.
