well, AMD doesn’t have processor delays

Zen 3 has only very nebulous dates atm

the only thing concrete is the desktop Renior APUs and they come out next month as staggered OEM/system integrator and retail releases

agree w parker, the next AMD release will be a fine time to either buy one of the current AMD chips once they drop in price or one of the new ones

a 3700, if I got a decent deal on it, would be the first thing I’d even consider replacing my 3570K with

But it’s 130,000 less, how is that an upgrade

well the great thing is you can just buy a board and cheaper CPU now and when it’s go time, buy the newer chip and boom, faster computer, especially now that AMD was shamed into letting motherboard vendors patch in support for Zen 3 in older chipsets

I have planned to do this with like 3 different PC builds and never actually ended up buying the better CPU later. The thing is that “cheap” but still new CPU is probably not the bottleneck that you’ll want to upgrade first. And by the time it is, it’s at least a few years later, motherboards are now incompatible and the best last-mobo-gen CPU isn’t even cheap (because of demand from corporations who need replacement parts I think)

I don’t think you get how cheap I’m saying

I mean like, grab one of the quadcores or even the 50 buck Athlons as a tideover and then go BIG when Zen 3 drops

the problem is when I finally do a ryzen build I’ll need to get DDR4/5 and another ITX board and a Dan A4 and an M2 drive and that’s going to be a lot of money

I’m shocked at anyone who would be posting in the ITX thread and doesn’t own 3 or 4 Dan A4s

I have an SG05 that I still have an excuse to open up once a year despite saying every time “never again”

Skate 3 is actually playable now that I’ve been able to restore my overclock!!!

you may want to inform your offspring that they may go crazy one day fashioning together an abomination

was thinking about picking up a b550 board and a 3600 & it snowballed into “well my case also sucks and i should have got a modular psu and of course some more noctua”

as if i got back into this shit

yeah my next build is going to be expensive, there’s no way around it now with the product categories I like

I think I spent like $700 total on my current getup that runs doom eternal at 144fps or whatever and fits in my living room and stores and projects infinite hevc 4k encodes and when I finally dip my toe back in it’s gonna be double that

You’re keeping that wifi card though right

no I think it will want to die as badly as my cpu by then

also I’ll just get the m2 wifi 6e equivalent, rather than having to use a windows driver package I custom assembled from a chipset that only ever shipped in macbooks because for some reason no one ever wanted a 3x3 mini pcie card that I think doesn’t fully conform to the bandwidth limitations of the slot

Don’t you still have like a coppermine celeron running in your nightstand

The AX200 m2 card is great btw! ASRock’s little modular cage rules

RAM and SSDs have decent prices right now for the first time since like 2016 if anyone needs parts.

HP’s nVME drives are usually about $120 for 1 TB and not significantly slower than Samsung’s. I’m using an EX920 as my boot drive now.

mendocino!! overclocked to 450mhz with the heatsink fan off because it was too noisy! I had to disable a BSD kernel module so it would stop shutting down around 70C!
