wonder how painful that transition is going to be considering it’s not the apple that went from ppc to intel, it’s the apple that shipped ios 13 and catalina
well they’re basically just gonna turn macos into ipados with finder, which means a macbook will be an ipad pro minus a touch screen (and pencil) plus the OS the ipad pro should already have.
the real loser here is tonymacx86
Gonna have to call it christophermacraspberrypi or something now
On the other hand these new chips might do Rosetta better than Core 2 Duos and Xeons circa 2007?
I would love to know how much of US student loan disbursements goes to Apple because the one place I’ve seen Macs totally irrationally dominate is school, even where the profession is overwhelmingly Microsoft shops.
I would love a MacBook with a pencil and touch screen argh
clang and gcc have been at effective parity on x86/arm for years which is way more than you could say for the ppc era and macOS already profiles the shit out of binaries to the point where they actually broke upx a couple releases ago so I wouldn’t underestimate how smooth this will be
Jobs would like invite his good friend Carlos Santana on stage to celebrate
I just got the win10 update with WSL 2 which apparently includes its own kernel and is therefore way faster so that’s neat
They also added eye control
I really feel for whoever at microsoft managed to ship WSL1 with an actual linux binary translation layer to the windows kernel like only a few years before they realized they could just use docker/hyper-v for everything instead
okay im actually gonna buy a laptop for real soon - i need something that can run halo mcc good and preferably has at least a 1tb hdd and ethernet support as well cuz I’m sick of wi-fi. and no please don’t tell me to get a desktop! i dont have room for it or i would. im gonna video edit and stream and shit on it.
i was looking at this or something because it looks fine but computers seem like they suck ass so who knows. felix youre a technogeek with spreadsheets tell me all the ways in which i am correct about computers sucking ass
You can just use a USB dongle for ethernet. No need to limit yourself to laptops with a port literally on it
Not used to having a laptop with working usb ports lol
I would suggest looking for something with a 1660ti or 5600m, they’re a big step above the 1650 and usually aren’t priced like it if you’re patient and look around
I found one with an rtx2070 that wasnt really any more expensive and has everything else I want so I just bought that instead
Moms on the Net!
if anybody else is like me and doesnt know shit about computers past uhh whenever the 8800 GTX came out let me tell you its a miserable experience trying to buy any of this overpriced branded Gamer shit and you should take up a real hobby like building gunpla instead. failing that, listen to the people in this thread and you too may stumble into a much better computer than you were looking at
Added a fan to my CPU cooler for push/pull (ambient temperatures rising) and tried overclocking my 8700k for the first time in earnest. A little disappointed that I can’t hold 5 ghz without cracking 95C - 4.8 ghz at 1.3v and 80C is where I am now. Admittedly I didn’t try 5 ghz at ~1.35v.
Should I stop worrying and learn to love the heat?
Also have some of that sweet discontinued samsung b-die on the way, hmu if you want some cheap used DDR4. (2x8gb, 2666mhz, c16)
my rule of thumb has always been that 85c is OK but 90 is not
pretty sure 5 GHz is the upper limit of non-exotic cooling solutions on the last few generations of i7s so not being able to tame it without a custom loop or delidding isn’t a big deal
I think 4.8 ghz/1.3v/80C peak is a good balance now
Looking up this stuff on forums is awful, full of people (presumably?) one-up lying about their silicon
Are there rules for mixing RAM sticks? One of my 2 16GB SoDimms is bogus so I need to replace it, but I can’t find an exact match.
TLDR I’m looking at another 2400mhz 16GB stick from Crucial, but it’s not a Ballistix Sport like the other one?
