I’m going to pick this up for PS4 in a couple of weeks, hoping for a black Friday sale or something. I’m low on cash for a bit and trying to figure out where my next paycheque is coming from. Please don’t stop playing it immediately after I buy it everyone
The saddest Chappie.
LET THEM HOLD THE GUN
IT’S MY TURN, MOM
Ah ah don’t lose hope. DLC yeah?
I logged into Gamefly to make sure there wasn’t anything else on my queue only to find that they’re shipping me Infinite Warfare instead, and a day early!
I only have myself to blame.
oh my god that was fantastic
similar to my other favourite game of the year, the witness, it’s an absolutely A+ work of game design, and my only real complaint is that the writing is more competent than interesting. but still, they could’ve called this “half life 3” and people would not have been disappointed.
now how bout that multi
I’ve only had time to play like 45 mins of the campaign but fuck, movement in this thing feels great
actually, one other minor complaint – on hard mode at least, infantry combat doesn’t really scale up to be significantly more difficult in later levels (instead, they just keep adding cooler and cooler setpieces and platforming bits), and the regular enemy mooks are a little too obviously dumb. titan combat however scales up really well in later levels; the end of the campaign is pretty much on par with armored core at its best in terms of what it asks of you.
one other note which is not necessarily a complaint is that there is very little about this game that feels especially new or modern – the only thing that’s really in step with current game design trends is the way the various titan loadouts and attack cooldowns feel moba-ish, and even that isn’t really pushing the envelope. beyond that, though, the structure of the narrative and the way you’re meant to care about the various characters is pure mid-aughts (albeit done really well), and the source engine is remarkably obvious despite not having seen it much in the past decade; all of the characters animate exactly like they’re in half-life 2. lucky thing it was way ahead of its time in that regard!
the core movement, and the visuals, and the gunplay are all as good as anything though.
multi is great! though it’s not that much unlike what I imagine other modern online shooters to be (not having played one since modern warfare, with the exception of planetside 2) and I definitely wouldn’t have bought the game only for this, and domination is totally the worst mode
So Call of Duty. A few missions in you become the fightin’ captain-commander of the Battlestar Galactica and can pick assignments from a space map of the solar system. I decided to personally infiltrate an enemy warship near Pluto because stealth. Mission report:
- Acquired some clothes. Proceeded to run around like a jagoff without arousing suspicion
- Loudly whispered replies to my lady partner and co-saboteur as she cautioned me “NOT TO GO HOT” even though it was “SO TEMPTING”
- Killed a dude to steal his ID. Guards found the body immediately, but didn’t suspect me even though they saw me walk away from it
- Lady partner was detected elsewhere on the ship and one of the enemy officers recruited me to go after her. The group engaged her. I ran past them to her. Ran back to them. Ran over to her. Ran back. No one cared. She picked them off eventually because she’s invincible
- Escaped to the exterior. Was reminded that I have a grappling hook and rocket boots I can use to fly to my escape ship
- Shot some other ships
- Landed back on Galactica, where I was told I am needed because I have the keys or something
War never changes.
I’m surprised how much anger Infinite Warfare seems to be getting from the Modern Warfare fans, but also I’m not because blah blah uncultured swine blah blah I’m the big anime fan. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be a lot of fun. Guess it depends on how much is on rails and how much is open.
I checked out the review discussion Polygon did and that Russ guy was complaining that it was, uh, more complex? He didn’t like that multiplayer maps allowed people more than just three routes to navigate.
If y’all were waiting for the price to drop on console versions it’s $35 at Target today and tomorrow.

This discussion and the Amazon price drop have convinced me to order this game (on PS4). I don’t really have any experience with modern FPS games other than the Half-Life, Portal, and Metroid Prime series, but this sounds like one that I would enjoy.
Totally want this for the single player. multi I couldn’t give less of a fuck about. Well, someday. When it’s very, very, very cheap on PC
the single player is short, keep in mind; even if it’s the most inspired/playable entry in the HL2/CoD4 lineage in a very long time, it’s really only worth it as a full package with the multi. but I’ve always liked games whose single-player modes effectively serve as tutorials for competitive play.
I like that this game felt good physically. I felt like I had a body in a way that I rarely have outside of Bungie stuff.
a true accomplishment for a source engine game
Yeah it is. This is one of the few Source engine games that I haven’t ended up getting annoyed at moving in.
