threauxdal; ellethread

this is the only (studio) version of that tune i recognize

the who’s interpretation is serviceable but within even the remotest earshot of brown’s? pretty much entirely superfluous

the who are pretty great live, i think that’s the sweet spot for them

ok i officially dig the who.

still think the songwriting on the first record is wobbly at times, but man they really cook live.

i’m less convinced by elvis costello yet, but i can at least report i’ve had “welcome to da workin week” stuck in my head for… a week? i’m not loving it but i respect it

i think the best thing about elvis costello is that Radio Radio probably inspired this song:

which is equally trite “media tells u wut 2 do” pseudo-punk but also a lot more fun to listen to imo

(I am so biased against elvis, sorry!! this is what happens when your dad is obsessed with something lol)

could you explain what this means? balloon boob suck is so evocative… i thought i would have gotten it by now but nope i’m still lost

OH MY GOD now that i write it out you are talking about the picture of me and parks from like 2009!!! holy shit lol

anyway re: the demo showcase samply

they are mostly pretty lo-fi. i am in the process of setting up a new method of recording and am going to try and re-demo everything out in a little nicer quality.

i also got the stems for dusk and am trying to get them for dawn so i can do a little remix/remaster/taylor’s version thing with those. i love the songs but am not entirely happy with those recordings.

edited the top post to add this link: Elle’s music link emporium - Google Docs
it’s a hub for links to my various musics.

i shared these in “share and talk about your music” when i finished them, but these are my attempts at doing “first thought best thought” with intent to release; effectively improvised EPs

#2 is really good i think. probably one of my favorite things i’ve done!

the first one is not quite as consistent but i like the songs on there too. lower fidelity, tho. maybe that’s a boon haha

i made recordings for a #3 but they remain unreleased for now

the first one is all new original material and the second one has some solo arrangements of tunes from Dawn & Dusk

your voice is so different in so many of these. I love it. I listened to the whole thing twice and both times I just kinda fall under the waves of music. I really love the first song though!!

I’ll listen to more tonight

i uploaded more demos to the demo showcase. mostly updates on existing demos; the band rehearsal takes are closer to finalized than the solo demos. you can still click the v2 on the right side and listen to other/older versions if you like, tho.

updated:

  • less than (rehearsal)
  • moonviewer (rehearsal)
  • pattern (rehearsal)
  • hardcopy (rehearsal)
  • television (rehearsal)
  • panic (old rehearsal)

newly uploaded:

  • regret (solo)
  • vampire knot (live at 529)
  • too late (solo)

two albums

Chakra - Satekoso [1981]

Akiko Yano - Tadaima [1981]

got the recs from here randomly (near the end)

I don’t really know what else to promo, so I would just say check out the album Satekoso by Chakra. It’s this weird Japanese progish album form 1981 that sounds like Adrian Belew era King Crimson but even stranger. It just got added to streaming services and wish more people knew about it. Tadamia by Akiko Yano is another good one, one of the best albums not a ton of people outside of online music circles have heard.

Hell yeah those are two of my favourite albums in the world

YES!! Always happy when more people discover this album. I dunno if you remember that song I posted a while back that you helped break down the music theory for? That was a Mishio Ogawa track — she’s the vocalist for Chakra!

Also, sorry to have neglected this thread for so long… Really enjoying the demos you posted!!

latest studio mixdowns if ya want a preview. the first two are likely going out together as a single at some point…

we are live tracking with a very good drummer with a great guitarist on the new ones

drummer’s name is Anthony Doud, we’ve been rehearsing with him for awhile and he brings a lot of musicality and ideas - he has his own (very good) band so he has a lot to contribute and a good intuition for what i am looking for. i really enjoy playing with him

guitarist’s name is Jared Pepper and he’s doing some pretty gnarly guitar work. it really helps sell your songs to have amazing musicians play on them lol
