THE WII SUCKS... or does it???

I feel like i’m regurgitating a comment someone already made but wanted to echo recs for Another Code R, it’s the comfiest security blanket of a game, very light but to its benefit. I remember the DS prequel Trace Memory had a sort of puzzle requiring you to blow into the microphone that took me coming back to it years later to figure out but all of the wiimote stuff in this one felt integrated into the game well enough that i didn’t feel like it was throwing me a curveball i didn’t see coming.

Feel like Wario Ware Smooth Moves is a bit more tech demo-y than the other WW games meant to showcase new control methods but I liked the rough polygonal look that pokes its way into some of the minigames. It has a lengthy Starfox SNES mini game that makes me pine for an antialiased 60fps rerelease

Ive always wanted to try that RPG about the funny little guys. Opoona? Yeah that one

Are the Mario Galaxies that bad?

honestly ive never played a bunch of wii games that seemed interesting because i hated the default controller, and theyre kind of a pain to emulate ime

opoona is weird and cute and has a good soundtrack. it’s what happened when someone let the folks who do all those dragon quest ds ports make an original game. play opoona

I liked the Wii version of Cave Story but that may be the only game I enjoyed playing on the console.

The 9 good Wii games? Maybe

  • Fire Emblem (direct sequel to the GameCube one, which is better)
  • Kirby’s Epic Yarn
  • Kororinpa
  • LIT
  • My Life as a Darklord
  • Orbient
  • Shattered Memories
  • Steven Spielberg’s Boom Blox
  • Wii Fit

Cave Story, La-Mulana, World of Goo, Rayman Origins, and the Klonoa remake are great but these days there’s no reason to play the Wii versions.

I still haven’t got around to playing Sin and Punishment 2.

The Last Story is a pretty wacky ride and worth playing imo.

Ain’t nobody talking about Cursed Mountain. Best mountain climbing vibes and tantric sex nonsense I’ve ever experienced in a game.

Rhythm Heaven Wii is the probably the system’s best game

I’ll also go to bat for No More Heroes but you guessed that already

Thr microgame where you drop the controller and the person goes bungee jumping is my favorite.

The Wii remains one of the best ways to experience RE4 (outside of VR, probably) and MH Tri was my first co-op MH experience on a Not PSP but I struggle to care for much else

all of the in game art in opoona is genuinely thrilling and so well conceived, especially the sculpture gardens in the big main city you start in, or whatever, i guess they’re like domes? there are fictionalized art movements and artists who you can follow through their career as you progress through the game, there are a few different galleries with really imaginative designs and installation art scattered throughout the world, there’s an art appreciation stat you get a point in every time you interact with a new piece of art, it’s all so special. it contributes so much to the like, utopian y2k thing the game has going on especially in its music, it is such a joy i cannot recommend it highly enough

i think there was like a re-localization patch that came out sometime last year? also it’s very well suited to playing in an emulator because it only uses the nunchuk, you just need two buttons and an analog stick

Kororinpa, Opoona, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor, and Ghost Squad are the top four games on it, imo

I really think Opoona is going to become a more and more interesting game as it ages, it does so many cool things and it is full of so many vibes. The re-localization patch definitely helps smooth out some of the roughness of the initial translation.

the wii had so much wiiware plus the virtual console plus it being hackable. it was like the late aughts version of everyone getting an xbox to make into a mame machine

ooo we have a wii hacking thread. very nice Adventures in Wii hacking

what was the name of like, mr somethings puzzle experience and you played a lot of puzzle games against your friends with geometric shapes, that was my favorite wii ware game

the art gallery in opoona that opens up a few hours into the game is a master class in world design. Seeing that juxtaposed with the art installations in the wilderness is such a great combination, as @miffy described above.

The fact that the jrpg gating is based around navigating this semi-socialist quasi-utopian society is also really cool.

Great, now I want to replay and actually finish it this time.
