In the six years since this topic first appeared, today I finally realized the title refers to the 3DS. I guess I assumed this was referring to an Earthbound cover band or something that ALSO happened to be a console I’d never heard of.
(To be fair, I never scrolled past the wiki talk previously.)
providence has placed a 3/4 scale upright bass in my living room just saying
There are two Threeds inside you
And one of them is always dark
But you will never see them
'Til you meet Everdraed in the park
I finished the Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright game today just in time for this topic to be bumped up, so let me take this chance to say that maybe don’t feel like playing this game is necessary even if you are a big fan of each. Even meeting the game halfway on some of its more absurd asks hypnotizing people so that they can’t see “pure black” but can other various shades of it is a huge ask even by the standards of fictional hypnosis, especially when using it on giant machinery that obviously would run rather loudly there are some rather giant plot holes that are hard to overlook, but I do kinda appreciate the unintentional moral of the the story being how the absurdly rich will play absurd games with people’s lives in the interest of their own ill conceived ideas rather than like pay for therapy.
Anyways now that the game is finished I can download the extra puzzles that require connecting to the 3DS store that is being taken down shortly, which was one of my primary goals. Mission accomplished~
I brought my 3ds with me to Europe so this bump was also fortunate.
I gave 4 Heroes of Light another go and it still felt very limp. My playthrough is not very far in, starting in the desert and finished the boss of the area off after trying to remember what to do. For my efforts I get two hats and then very quickly shunted to another character who’s a refugee in some port city. Said character cannot fight well on their own and apparently I needed to move the plot forward, some more poking around in the city, for the second character to get out of bed.
And then Heroes of Mana because maaaaybe this time I can get through the endless tutorializing of a real time strategy game. I did, for one stage. I like to have mechanics I can sink my teeth in before I start caring about the story going on in the background; this was going for the other way around. I had also forgotten there’s an evaluation for how well I did with item incentives. I do have the strat guide somewhere back home which might help bludgeon my way through if I feel the need.
My return plane ride is probably going to be focused on Rune Factory 4, which had been stuck on waiting for the random event to start the end third of the game.
Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright update: I decided to play one of the dozen bonus episodes a day to finish this off, and the bonus episodes so far seem to be the major characters breaking the 4th wall and openly wink-wink-ing the parts that makes zero sense. I respect this choice.
Well, the eshop is closing in a few days. I just got the 3 japan rail sims that are available in my region, smt4, soul hackers, liberation maiden, crimson shroud, pocket card jockey. Still thinking about dipping in again for A-train, some picross, the fullblox dlc, that pinball game loki mentioned recently… maybe more
Looking at my home screen with the abovementioned plus friday monsters, kokuga, aeroporter, sega 3d classics, a good few game boy games (mole mania baby), subara city, some fishing games plus a cart of dq7 inserted thinking like, yeah i got all the games on this thing
(Ok but actually i am thinking of getting carts of link bw worlds, dillon’s dead-heat breakers and culdcept revolt off ebay)
trauma center and smt iv whooped my ass. my fondest memories are replaying hotel dusk, then the sequel and getting teary at the ending for the latter. i miss you kyle hyde. i think this is the reason that even though i forget i have one of these things most of time, that i’m never going to give it up.
I’ve been enjoying picking which Final Games to put on the 3DS, as a statement, sort of like a tombstone’s engraving?
Right now the statement is « Atlus ruled that worthless console » because I put 6 SMT games and one Etrian on there. There was only room left for one Picross, one Warioware gold and the Fire Emblem Gaiden remake. Only regrets are not picking Crimson Shroud and more Picross games
I almost bought new games but navigating from the 3DS eshop is so convoluted in Europe right now, might as well just learn how to pirate it instead
RIP
Never been a better time to grab games by QR code.
i started doing this as well. like on one hand the ports of MGS3 and Street Fighter 4 are obviously not optimal but they have such weird little 3D tricks in them that it seems like i’d love to have the storage space for them, imagining some hypothetical where i pull my 3DS off a shelf and watch a guest thumb threw the menu as i ramble on about how awesome the haggling was in Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball
Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball…game of the decade
I should buy the rest of his games full price as a hearty thank you.
Atlus did a sale in australia after all so i got devil survivor 2, culdcept revolt and etrian odyssey 4, plus lufia game boy game with leftover money. I feel lame for booting etrian before any other jrpg but i figured itd have the fastest most frictionless opening. Wow those graphics!
Also got dillon dead heat off ebay. I love my new console the nintendo 3ds. Mostly im playing mole mania for game boy
Hope sega has a sale at the last second.
Despite my earlier comments went ahead and grabbed mostly DSi games no one cares about:
Will QR code Dillon, 40 bucks!
