Honestly I’m not even that great at the game, I can’t clear the first loop of BL and I’m terrible at chaining, I don’t really bother. I’m just quite good at bullet herding I guess. And I have played the second loop a little bit.
If you want a tip use the A type ship, I couldn’t clear it with B type
My Gamertag is Neon Brahmin if you want to watch the replay, I think I’m 44th or something now
so I’ve been grinding away at regular DDP lately, partially because I love DDP and partially as a bulwark against just buying shit. I wanted DOJ, but son, we have DOJ at home, fire up mame and finally get that DDP 1 ALL you originally dreamed of many, many years ago; if you manage that, maybe I’ll allow you to buy the shiny new (21 year old) game.
it’s been going…ok. in theory I can no miss the first 4 stages, in that I have no missed them all in isolated training, but that’s a long way off from being able to do so with any consistency. I figure no missing those with some level of consistency is the first real significant step toward mounting credible 1CC attempts. I only have one routed bomb, which I use to kill the two bits directly behind the core on the third boss, which is a bit of a disaster of a fight for C shot in my experience. so far I’m doing this entirely on my own, I haven’t watched any replays of the game or sought any kind of advice. I dunno if that’ll hold through stages 5 and 6 though. I’ll probably have to start planning bombs.
Merry christmas my loves. I hope every single one of you got dodonpachi for christmas. Praise jesus christ our lord aka Cave Interactive Co., Ltd. (company).
I made a mistake and imported the pricier ray’z arcade collection when all I wanted to play was the non-HD versions of raystorm/raycrisis. Just learned I could have got that cheap US collection. It’s called “hd collection” so I thought it was just the two remasters, it’s actually both versions of each game. All I had to do was google it…
I mean sure it’s convenient to play rayforce on the switch too but I don’t need more reasons to get rid of the Saturn hanging over me…
Anyway, very cool games right…raycrisis has such over the top presentation but also it feels like they don’t really care about the player having fun or feeling excited…I always choose to read that kind of thing as deliberately cultivating a cool vibe and not like…developer ineptitude and/or constraints. Just go with the flow… And truly one of a kind situation with the whole level select thing. Raystorm is number one in my heart though for all those pretty building and water graphics in the first two stages
I also like Raystorm the least of the Ray-games. I’ve put 15 or so credits into it and always think I’d rather play Rayforce (perfect) or Crisis ( weird as hell).
I think I have a special attachment to storm for it blowing my mind with the ps1 pack-in demo that has the 3rd level taking place in a giant space battle. Seeing the camera whip and glide around with all the fighting going on in the background was a real highlight. Though I think out of all of them have probably spent the most time with crisis. Such a beautiful game and every playthrough is like a video visualizer/accompaniment to a new remix of a lost prog-drum and bass-jazz fusion album from the 90s everyone forgot about.
I don’t own any physical games from this gen aside from SoR4 but the plan is to swoop in, maybe twelve months after the Switch successor launches, and scoop up Ray’z, the Darius collections, and all the Cave stuff to build a Switch shmup hoard, heir apparent to the Saturn.
