The Shooting 20XX Part II: Simple 1500 Series

Looks like M2 Daioujou has a rare overseas version included, called Dodonpachi 3.

Cool title screen

Gameplay Differences

  • Only in this version, the starting bomb stock for each shot type has been reversed. While Leinyan still starts with two bombs, Exy now starts with 3 bombs instead of 1, and likewise Shotia starts with 1 bomb instead of 3.
  • The speed of Shotia’s laser has been increased compared to White Label, but is still slower than Black Label.
  • Actions the player takes while fighting the Stage 5 boss Kouryuu now affect whether the game carries over the player’s Shot-Speed Rank into the second loop. If the player dies or if a bomb is used against the boss, the player’s Shot-Speed Rank will reset to 0 at the beginning of the second loop; otherwise, the player’s Shot-Speed Rank will be unchanged.
  • You no longer lose all of your lives upon reaching the game’s second loop, fixing a common complaint from high-level players.

Huh. Interesting. Apparently it’s sort of a proto-Black Label version.

I remember when they retroactively made ddp3 the parent rom in mame, kinda bizarre and anglocentric…

The cute aesthetic belies a really good shmup. Lots of care went into making this game really…good? I dunno I don’t have the vocabulary to talk about shmups but it’s cool. I think an SBer could 1CC this and take the top spot on the leaderboard as well.

OH also it lets you darken the backgrounds which i appreciate a lot

You’re right. This is a lot of fun and the enemies are really charming. And the credits sequence is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

Game rules. If you have extra Japan eshop points left, you can get the silly cellphone version as well, lol.

i love those stupid phone versions :relieved: i own ketsui deathtiny as well and i probably played the phone one more. something about it being so dinky but also hard as really endears it to me.

Oh shit, I didn’t know the Ketsui one was on there, I will grab that at some point.

The direct menu is weirdly laggy on Switch, but only on the home screen. Game is otherwise flawless, goodbye forever MAME.

It really feels like the game is loading in the background somehow. It’s weird, but then the menu is fine after that.

Yeah I think you’re right.

I really love that it shows you the order in which you’ve collected the bees so you know which part of the stage to check out if you’re missing one. Critical for getting that first extend.

Omg the arcade challenge music is too good. Such a good remix.

I can’t for the life of me find it online. Doesn’t seem to be part of the remix OST by Super Sweep either. If somebody finds it please link it here.

The arrange modes are also really fun.

Probably the only time I’ll be on a leaderboard so best to have my five minutes of fame now.

its here.
CRUST SHMUP is now available to play on itch.io

Bleak and brutal, minimal and looping, anti-capitalist anarcho arcade action Inspired by Scum by Napalm Death.

Scoring systems are for Tories. A broken game for a broken society.

Thanks for checking it out.

Peace
