It’s great. Some minor frame delay because the Switch, but only super hardcore people have noticed or complained. Otherwise a lot of good stuff there.
glad to have tutorials. i feel like i only think about fighting games and shmups nowadays it i’m still v bad at both.
esprade is great on switch, everyone seems v happy w the port.
Nice to see other folks have come around to sharing many of my opinions, on shooters
But what the heck is Gradius V doing top 10. Does anyone here love that game? I really liked it but I also thought it was very, very long and that killed my interest in playing it much. Though it’s probably the peak of that style of hori shooter?
i love gradius v but yes it is too long
crimzon clover that good huh?
Gradius V is too long and slightly too slow but it is my favorite of the sluggish story heavy Hori shooters.
Crimzon Clover is dope.
Surprised how many different DDPs are on the list. Wonder if that is just down to which DDP you played first. Everything after DDP runs together for me outside of I don’t like any of them enough to invest.
Gradius V is great, but suffers from PS2 era bloat. CC is great times and was a fun thing to watch develop.
This is a very shmups . com list (Ketsui is good but not that good). DDP:R/Daifukkatsu would be my DDP pick probably, especially including Black Label. Dangun Feveron is a neat game, but nowhere near that ranking. Really its just “shmups loves Cave” and that is OK (Cave is great in a lot of ways) but yeah, I wonder what this would look like if you had to rank whole series.
Battle Garegga got robbed.
Dangun Feveron is maybe my least favourite Cave game. i feel like a lot of this list has recency bias, especially for those m2 ports.
Yeah, I don’t think Dangun gets on there without the M2 port (and its “we made this game way less punishing” mode).
I think almost everyone likes gradius v in general, it’s just not that widely played
Woah Einhander is cool.
If you have never looked up the the secret final boss for Einhander you are in for a treat.
Now watching a RType Delta playthrough I think yes I DO have problems with the RType series.
So M2 announced the first four Toaplan ports, which apparently are actually going to be released under the ShotTriggers banner:
- Kyuukyoku Tiger (aka Twin Cobra)
- Tatsujin Ou (Truxton II)
- Hishouzame (Flying Shark)
- Outzone
I’m happy to play any of these. To some extent it lets me discover new games - although I’ve played most of the Toaplan stuff a bit, I haven’t really gotten into any of their games outside of Batsugun. HOWEVER…
I’m sort of bummed that this may mean ShotTriggers is taking a break from non-Toaplan games. It hurts if that means not getting loving ports of some of the Raizing stuff (Batrider, Kingdom Grand Prix, and Battle Bakraid would have been amaaaaaazing), and the prospect of maybe never getting a console Ibara Kuro takes a little piece of my soul.
Some of the Toaplan stuff is also a bit of a harder sell for me at full price for a single 1980s game. Kinda hoping they either do multi-pack releases, or perhaps lower priced individual releases (maybe on a bit faster schedule than the once a year or so cadence the ShotTriggers games have been on to this point).
Outzone eh? Tidy…
Yeah agreed though, even if they put a few of these on a disc, I think I’d prefer more Raizing, definitely Ibara Kuro or even a really nice Dodonpachi port.
fuckin’ outzone!
i really just want a shot triggers dodonpachi
Sup firenze.
Was really hoping for a big Toaplan collection because I don’t like Toaplan that much~
Is anyone else a big fan of those Arcade Archives releases? I’m such a mark for them. I know they probably have input lag etc. but they’re cheap enough for me to basically not care.
Which ones are essential for you? I’m in the UK so we’ve only just got Image Fight. Mainly I want to recommend Zed Blade / Operation Ragnarok for that glorious Manabu Namiki happy hardcore soundtrack.
