I’m pretty impressed with ZeroRanger (which I had never heard of until you posted about it here). I’ve only reached the third stage thus far, but what a third stage it is.
The blatant tributes to other games bugged me a little at first–I like a video game or any story to occupy its own world–but there is plenty of original content to counteract that.
I was hesitant to get this game because it looked like the difficulty might be too much for me, but it’s reasonable enough. This might just turn out to be my favorite shooter since Crimzon Clover.
I just snagged Zero Ranger on the strength of all the recommendations here, and it IS really good! I gotta see if I can go all vertical-monitor with it.
I’m not very hardcore when it comes to shmups. What kind of controller should I use with this game? An Xbox One pad didn’t feel like it was quite cutting it, but maybe I can remap the controls so it’s easier to switch between primary and secondary fire.
Don’t say “use an arcade pad” cuz I don’t got one.
If you can’t use an arcade stick, my general shooter rec is a pad and possibly mapping shooting to include the shoulder buttons, as I have an easier time hitting multiple buttons if those are involved.
I will probably try to grab Zero Gunner this weekend.
I went to the talk show event for the release of Ketsui. I didn’t mean to and I was if not the only non-Japanese the only white in the 20~ or so people crammed into Beep on a Friday night.
Without someone there I needed to translate for most of the conversation went over my head and I had little idea who the four people were in front of me. Three were from M2 and it was great to hear their passion for the project. The only reason Ketsui got a physical release was because the lowest guy on the totem kept pushing it.
This also was the push for the Beep Bonus Item being a box like an arcade board came in. The prototype from this summer you may remember was real small. Barely big enough for the game. They made it bigger to hold a 64p art-design book that is apparently filled with reall in depth interviews with…the cave guy.
There is already a guy on shumplations who had to be there at the time because he got everything signed and yet is trying to sell it and I definitely locked eyes with him!
They were really worried about making it feel like Ketsui since it is such a loved game, and that the feedback they got from the live events was positive was such a relief.
There was some talk about secret modes and scoring bonuses they were very hush about.
Someone immediately asked them to port Akai Katana next and they told them very directly bother cave and tell all your friends to buy Ketsui.
I haven’t had a chance to break out the game yet but I am ready this is the 4th time I have bought ketsui and maybe this time I will love it as others do.
Assuming they mean that the enemies would actually change, not just have more HP.
One part that I guess isn’t a joke is that a new version of R-Type Dimensions is coming to PS4. That was a disappointing release, and I guess it’s too much to hope for that they’d do a better job with it this time.
