generally true but i’d add that the haptics and triggers are also (very) good in quite a few racing games e.g. GT7, Assetto Corsa, Monster Supercross
also pretty good overall in Death Stranding

Yeah I think the trigger resistance thing is pretty remarkable, it’s fascinating how many different sensations it can create
It got really tiring on my carpal tunnel in GT7 so I eventually turned it off, which did make me feel like I was getting less feedback from the game, but the lack of wrist pain made up for it.
These days I’ll hold the dualshock for a minute to see what the haptics are like. I think ‘so that’s how it is’, then go back to my regular setup.
Yeah my wrists cannot take any vibration at this point and I think the tiny bit bigger the dual sense is over the 4 is too much and every time I return to the DS4 I think “Wow this is a CONTROLLER.”
I don’t get it?
Like yes the PS⁵ is a fine plastic/computer parts box.
It’s fine. It plays the game, has a few quirks. Sure.
So does the Switch, the Xbox, and an army of portables, or a PC.
They all have most of the same games.
For us the PS5 has mostly been about exclusives and… Goat Simulator.
Long live the Goat Simulator box
I usually forget rumble or whatever even exists until I set the controller down on a hard surface during a cutscene and it starts virbrating loudly. Because I’m rarely aware of it, I can’t say for sure it isn’t doing something for me subliminally that enhances or at least alters the experience, but I can say that I never miss it when I don’t have it.
I was at a store today that had a PS5 demo machine set up and I almost played Astro Bot but the batteries in both controllers weren’t charged enough to stay on for more than a couple seconds.
But I did get to hold a PS5 controller. It felt solid. I liked that it was slightly bigger than an Xbox controller. Might actually get a PS5 this year.
after having caught up on Sony’s other first party games recently, I really think Astro Bot is kind of overrated (at least post-VR which was extremely cute and novel) in terms of how it stands in for Sony actually like having a history and accessible imagery and so on. because Ratchet and God of War and Spiderman are all like, extremely extremely likeable and arguably earn it more without trading on 25 year old nostalgia…
Definitely those other games are my main reason for wanting one I just mentioned Astro Bot because it looked it was the only game they had installed in the demo unit.
yeah, certainly Astro Bot is still very cute, I just think its popularity is a weird consequence of just how badly the PS5 brand has been presented, to the point where Sony is now principally identifiable as the publisher of the most modern, polished, single player AAA games on Steam. like people are just confused about what a flagship console game is now and they like that this one has parappa in it for 3 seconds
It’s just the Sony version of Mario. They tried a long time to find their version of Mario. Crash Bandicoot didn’t really do it for them and they wanted to be the console for older kids and adults anyway. It is weird that they eventually came back around to doing it anyway and that it took them this long to get it to all come together but I guess they just needed to find the right character and didn’t know what that was going to look like until they saw it.
PlayStation’s whole thing now has become look we’re like Nintendo but for grown-ups and the PlayStation fans rejoiced.
It’s more like the Sony version of R.O.B.
Sony had Mario and it was a cat that wanted to be human and was constantly tricked by another cat.
I do kind of wonder how much nostalgia is being traded on. While there is a core group that will be excited for Pa rappa, the wider impression I get is that it feels like a guessing game to most
Some are easy guesses for people like Horizon. But most people don’t remember many of the earlier games so it’s kind of an oddity within the Astro game to them.
A testament to how much gaming has grown.
holy shit UE5 + PS5 is such a joke. wukong runs like an utter dog and looks like it’s rocking 900p. incredible. we’re truly living in the future
unfortunately this console generation was kind of underpowered and the Switch 2 is going to produce identical looking results with 3 tflops and dlss 3 and eat everyone’s lunch
on the plus side every non Nintendo game comes to PC now and often at launch
Sony at least will still try to make a PS6 because it doesn’t really hurt their brand to charge $800 for a console that performs like a 5080 in 3 years but mainstream is gonna = portable power envelope from this year onward
PS3 II
the PS3 was (accidentally) redeemed by the fact that Japanese developers still much preferred working with Sony at the time and mostly had adequate dev tools by 2009, the PS5 not so much
the new naughty dog thing and GTA6 are going to ship late enough that they’re practically cross gen titles, half life 3 will get announced in the meantime, and they will probably be like the last 2 ever big non Nintendo console exclusives
