i just tried it out with castlevania lords of shadow. the tutorial area was streamy-framey but still basically okay considering how much stuff was going on. also tried mega man 9 which has never felt right streamed. noticible input lag as the buster fires as you take your finger off the button.
the shogunate agents kidnapped the asshole sword master guy’s emma emmerich looking ass wife so we went to edo and right after suggesting to her we should just run away they assassinated my love interest for helping us rescue e.e. so I cut off Ii Naosuke’s head in the sakurada gate incident. the one time I do a romance option in a game.
it’s 1863 now and edo has some sort of san andreas gang warfare stuff going on on it’s map between grove street (anti-shogun, green) and the ballas (pro-shogun, purple)
This game sounds so cool. But refuse to pay more than 3000 yen for it.
just wandering around edo picking fights now, let my topknot down, grew my beard out, contemplating the point of existence, why I have to continue on in this world while my romance interest who I gave so many photo albums to to raise her bond and favor meter remains dead. ryoma keeps being like “I don’t know about these anti-shogunate guys anymore they’re starting to get a little kill crazy” (we torched the british legation) and I’m just like “huh? yeah I guess, anyway I’m going to go pray at taka’s grave and kill everyone I come across on the way there.” they did for some reason put the dumbest guy in charge just cause he was brother in law to the scholar revolutionary executed by the state who inspired everyone despite having none of his acumen or insight. we’re all bickering over the boss’ legacy now.
this game began with you as a pair of ninja twins, you fail to assassinate commodore perry and you have to pick which ninja twin escapes and that becomes your player character. the other one, your blade twin, shows up every so often over the years with a robot arm on the opposing side and you duel with them. my sister gave me a code to enter during character creation so my blade twin looks like her protagonist. you can also do co-op on the missions but you usually have a lot of npc companions you can bring along so I just do that.
some places there’s trees with ribbons tied around them and that means there’s a cave nearby with a secret boss. the guy from nioh is in one of them and when you beat him you get the nioh combat style. every combat style has a novice intermediate advanced and master ranking. any style that’s master ranking you can take a move from and put it on another mastered style. every combat style is one of three types which is strong weak or neutral against certain enemies depending on what weapon they’re using. except shinobi combat styles are their own thing which are neutral against everything but your counter spark has a shorter window but is more damaging to their ki bar, which is how you wear them down and do a critical hit like sekiro. there’s so much shit in this game.
I can’t figure out what the gta gang colors on the map are actually for they just end up going away when I light bonfires in the area anyway which is going to be like the first thing you do. so that part seems kind of disappointing.
what ps5 game has the most graphics
Spiderman 2 has alort of graphics. Horizon as well
oh yea i forgot about spider man for some reason. i sort of liked the first one! it does have a ton of graphics crammed into it
this one looks like I could be playing a ps3 game in rpsc3 for all I know until there’s a cutscene which looks like a cutscene but my character is wearing his outfit I gave him. if there’s ever a pc port I’d be interested to see if I could like downgrade the resolution to 480 with a crt shader or something. that should just be a standard dlss option really.
me and ryoma switched to the shogunate side. you know how it is you’re sent to assassinate a guy then everyone ends up being too impressed by how cool everyone in the room is to go through with it and you end up friends. and he’s like “the shogun’s a lame duck and malleable right now we can reform them. we need our own blackships so we can keep everyone elses black ships out” normally I hesitate when people start talking down revolution with reform but if there’s one thing I love it’s achieving parity in arms, which sounds more reasonable right now than somehow expelling the outside world with swords with no other plan beyond that
at the beginning of the game you kind of have the impression you’ll have to do missions for one side of the other but other than those first couple so far you kind of end up just guided by the times and your roommate ryoma which side you’re on. maybe they intended for more of that and that’s what the gang colors on the map are for, there’s so much stuff in the game already that yeah I’m sure they probably had like eight more game mechanics planned
turned my life around, joined the shinsengumi.
also I’m not sure why the first time I’ve heard of this person was through a videogame in 2024
Quick note that while that’s a legit antique photo, it’s likely not Nakazawa Koto and instead an actor dressed up for a photoshoot, there’s various discussions on what remains on the old internet scattered around on who/when it actually is.
NOTE: date taken before photography was invented, nice
(whoever is in that photo is hot as hell though so who gives a rip, it works)
fascinating how few games have been mentioned in this thread
otoh, @parker singlehandedly Drums up more interest in the PS5 than four years of adverts could though, that should account for something, i guess?
we went to kyoto cause it’s a hotbed of anti-shogun sentiment as the roshigumi, immediately it turned out the guy in charge of us was some double agent, so the whole thing got called into question and we were ordered back but a small group was like hold on we still got this problem and a job that needs doing here so we’re staying and that’s how the shinsengumi formed. the koto gal went back with the ones who returned to edo
since we’ve been in kyoto we’ve had a couple more internal disputes and had to do some purges, what can I say getting to be killers with badges tends to draw some people in who don’t have the best intentions. plus I think they end up getting really annoyed by how cool our leader kondo is.
I’ve opened the doors of my heart once more and started another romance (they call them veiled vows) but I think this one will go much better. it’s with the sickly sword prodigy in the shinsengumi that all the ladies and men love whose always coughing up blood.
I’m thinking long and prosperous lives await all of us
check out this sick uniform
I do like that it doesn’t just vilify one side and you get to be buddies with people on both sides and then sometimes end up having to kill them but I wish the game would let me just commit to one side. but ryoma gets cold feet every time people start getting killed and wants to switch over for a while. great, we united the chosu and satsuma clans so they can now better crush my friends, thanks buddy! the anti-shogun faction has been less annoying since the idiot brother in law guy got killed and the drunk took over, but president tokugawa has already sold me on his dream of converting japan to a democracy and I’m trying to put down these counter revolutionaries.
it’s interesting playing this after whatever the hell was going on in like a dragon ishin’s psychotic plot where every character was some undercover guy with three different names. I think that was the most disappointing yakuza game I’d played considering how close it originally came out to 0 and 6. fist fighting the shogun into abolishing the class system was the only good part.
A Friend just started Isshin as his first Yakuza game because he likes Samurai stuff and I was trying to explain in the most basic terms how nuts everything that happened is. Like if you played Benjamin Franklin who was pretending to be Benedict Arnold BUT in the fiction of the game you were going to fulfill the lives of both men as actors on the stage of history. And yet they are also the idiot characters of Like A Dragon.
ryoma had the thing masterminded was going to end the thing without fighting and then my ninja blade twin uh, took them out of the picture, so it was war. I’ve been using the bayonet weapon to keep up with the times and because you usually end a combo or critical hit by tucking that thing under their chin and pulling the trigger.
when everything was going to hell he was there shoulder to shoulder with us. jules brunet… I forgive you for helping to put down the paris commune on your return to france. what a guy. france trying to recall the guy back and he’s all fuck off I’m a samurai now, going down fighting with the fellas all the way to ezo. I’d love to read a biography, translated diary, something about the guy, you’d think his life would be ripe for some historical fiction novels even, apparently nobody gives a shit.
brunet’s drawings
we went back to edo defeated and it’s 1868, I think ten years since the game’s started, and it’s pick a corner to die in or flee to hokkaido time. it’s annoying to lose a war to some people who end up afterwards just going “uh what do we do now, I guess we can’t really pretend the outside world doesn’t exist after all!” then just continue with most of your policies. the elon musks figuring out internet moderation of it’s time. anti-foreign anything but they were tore out the frame on imported beer the whole time and bought a bunch of foreign weaponry to win at the last minute. they basically won just by hanging in there long enough and nobody wanting to go against the emperor too hard. once they had the firepower the emperor decreed the shogun abolished and last samurai guy with the dog is all “hell yeah, now we’re the state sanctioned force and they’re the disorderly rabble!” well you got a big surprise coming buddy when no barbarians are actually expelled in the making of this revolution. cool dog though
really wish the game would let you die in some doomed republic of ezo epilogue if you went shogun, or saigo’s satsuma rebellion thing if you side anti-shogun, but I don’t think it’s hiding anymore locations.
what I’m always telling people
yeah the game just kind of ended with everyone being all “let’s just build a new japan that honors all these dead cool people,” and you finish off your dastardly blade twin trying to interupt the peace proceedings. sometimes in life your real blade twin is not the one you were trained alongside from youth in your ninja village. it does show brunet and the shinsengumi sailing off to hokkaido in a post credit scene, and the historical narrator narrates some things like it’s the end of any normal chapter in this game, only now all the cool characters are off in a location you’re not in doing a new chapter you can’t play.
this is also how pacific overtures ends
Flopflation
Only Sony does these big tech dives right? Are there any for either of the ABXY consoles?
