don’t be fooled by the chill beats, this game is downright mean xD
i’ve been playing a lot (i’m streaming it again) and i don’t know how to place it but this is one of those score type games that gets me frustrated because the skill curve is jagged and bizarre. my high score is still my 4th attempt ever and it feels like i get worse with every subsequent try. any attempt to be cute or play “better” seems to result in immediate death lmao
i would like to at least beat the second boss before i stop
Funnily enough the first run I got past the first boss is when I got that score and all the way to the second boss (with the shield), and every other run failed to get that far. TBF I had one run where I managed to seemingly beat the second boss with the shield intact… and then it came back and hit me when I didn’t know it was still in play and my concentration broke and got hit again and that kinda sucked.
I just hold down right or left and spin in the middle of the screen, which makes me more or less invincible for non-boss fights. It’s just when I try to gather gems that I get hit, so now I just sit back and see so many gems fade into nothingness waiting for the safest time to grab a bunch. It is slow going but seems to be the best strategy.
The second boss kinda sucks! My last run had me positioned poorly and try to avoid the boss on its first run up the screen. I did not and got hit and bounced off the top of the screen with my momentum killed and no way to avoid the missile coming from below, was a very “I deserved to take one hit there, but going from shielded to dead within two seconds because of it feels overly harsh”.
I’m very torn on the game if I am honest. When I die I do very much want to run it back to try and do better but legit most of the time I am just holding one button down watching myself spin in place waiting for a time to go do something safely and… it doesn’t excite me, you know?
I was a spinner too at first, but then i got impatient. I learned how to reliably take out enemies by diving close, taking a uturn, and flying in a straight line. I’ve gone from being focused on surviving, to killing, to cooking gems. I can get in a good state of flow from this but I’m still adjusting to the spikes in difficulty.
The first time I met the third boss, i did better than any subsequent time. I think it’s pretty easy to get impatient here but i hope I’m getting better at each step to one day break through the ceiling.
i’m not the absolute biggest fan of this game personally (it mostly comes down to the fact that i’m not good at it, lol), but i’m so grateful for this opportunity to score chase with friends… that alone makes me want to pick it back up and try and claw my way up a slot or two on the boards. thanks for being cool y’all
I am probably done with it as the second boss is beyond annoying. Last attempt I was so happy as I finally defeated its second run… and then there was a third one. I died landing the last shot to defeat its third run, I let the screen run and saw a fourth one commence. You win second boss, I ain’t got it in me to see how long I have to dodge your attacks to see how many times I gotta knock you outta the air before you stay down.
I had the music on mute, so I didn’t get the full impact I’ll just have to beat it again! I have been listening to the full soundtrack when I draw so I’ve probably heard the music that plays.
I’ve made it to the third boss twice now and I’ve got no clue how to not get hit by its first attack, I’m putting all my tokens on keeping a shield until then.
I have avoided the initial attack of the third boss a few times now and have been blessed with them repeating it endlessly (the one time I tanked past it with a shield it used narrower directed attacks), but my main issue is not having the slightest clue how to attack this thing as it at least initially doesn’t move. Funnily enough the thing the rest of the game doesn’t really prepare you for at all is a stationary opponent.
I think/hope I may have sown up not ending up in last place so really I just want to beat the third boss one time so I can consider the game “beaten”. The game isn’t without it charms but is kinda busted, I literally have spent all this time just holding down a button spinning in the middle of the screen and only going for gems when it is clear; the sum total of times an enemy has hit me while spinning in place is one.
The good news is I beat the third boss and I guess the game, the bad news is I choked so hard afterwards as I had a double shield and got thrown off by the ghosts, spinning in place don’t work there at all! and made some dumb mistakes. Still I heard that catchy last tune and got a pretty respectable score, victory!
