wtf why is the vitahacks board 18+ only

that’s amazing though, i have very fond memories of vita minecraft, definitely the closest to the “portable world” dream being realised i’ve ever seen. i might install this when i make some space sometime

In hindsight is there any reason to pick the 2000 model over the 1000 model? Is hacking process the same? I always wanted the OLED one…although I guess OLED burn in could be a real problem with a screen from 2012

I feel like the battery life was a lot better on 2000 than 1000

I also just hate OLED as a display technology, especially for anything with static UI elements so I am biased

i have the non-OLED and i love it, but i never had the OLED so i’m unspoiled

I believe this is why sony made the vita bubbles jiggle and glisten!

The OLED screen sure is nice, I’m not sure I’ve ever used a vita without one though

LCDs have no personality

the Vita’s OLED has personality, you can see all the bits where the screen isn’t properly glued to the substrate when it’s all black

My main issue is that it’s so heavy.

I got a “slim” with CFW ready firmware version so will attempt hacking one wish me luck.

hacking the Vita makes it a really worthwhile handheld, but some of the homebrew is a pain to do because they skirt this line of not trying to break too many laws

i.e. you can play Sonic Mania on your Vita! but you need the PC files, which the downloaders will not provide for you.

so basically it’s very easy to pirate PSP and Vita games but the other stuff takes more effort

i bring it with me on the train and have a great time

I have been really enjoying playing GBA games on the 3DS which uses some sort of pseudo-/semi- native hardware compatibilty and thought ps1 and psp games on the vita was kind of the same thing, but it turns out that is not really true or the answer is pretty complicated I guess, and I immediately lost all desire to purchase a vita. not to diss adrenaline I just think that kind of hardware backwards compatibility stuff is so neat.

see, i heard that, but upon trying it, i honestly still feel like Vita and PSTV are effectively the best ways to play PSP games

PS1 games are a different story but PS1 has such a wide library that there’s always some edge cases. even the PS2 doesn’t run all PS1 games. i’m not even entirely sure the PSOne revision runs all PS1 games. tho i get what you mean about the vibe of it

whatever it sounds like on paper, in practice, adrenaline is absolutely fantastic. moreso if you install something like ARK launcher on top of it. you have wild options for maximizing performance, and there are tons of patches that unlock stuff like the second analog stick for use on Vita / PSTV

link to the ARK CFW - by far my favorite, and actively being updated in 2024

i guess it’s called ARK-4 to distinguish itself. i always forget the exact name. i just know it rocks lol

I remember trying Portable Ops on the Vita and it crashed, so I decided the best way to play PSP games is a PSP. But that was years ago, maybe things got better.

it seems that it’s no longer possible toget ps mobile games from pkgi? so if you have tokyo jungle mobile and oh deer installed, your vita is now a rare artifact.

also there were apparently a bunch of hamster-ported old japanese phone games that never even got added to pkgi? so those are double super lost now i guess

i hope i’m just a wrong idiot about all this though

source?

i tried it this morning, and everything i tried to get just gave me an error. i also downloaded a vita game in the same session and that worked fine

thank you.

so, you might not be able to currently get those files from the NoPayStation system (which includes pkgj for Vita and pkgi for PS3), but all of the files available for download there have been backed up, so nothing is lost. might just be a little more legwork since you can’t do it directly from the console and might need to source the game files a different way

i’m looking into this now. i probably have the files for most of the PSMobile stuff available on the Sony servers downloaded from something i did before, but i’m quite certain those files are backed up in numerous places by other individuals. they might not be readily accessible since NoPayStation has been a simple and reliable solution for these things, but i will see what i can do in the interim and share in the axe if i find them

edit: far as i can tell, it looks like sony may be blocking download of PSM stuff from their CDN via the existing NPS (NoPayStation) method. interesting, since nothing else is currently affected.
