The News Grandmaster 4000

Neat. Seems to be missing Mouse Maze at the moment, and that might be the best one.

the yakuza 6 demo is back up

Kind of looking forward to the renewed DISCOURSE of this one

With the Let it Die collab I guess the Capcom rights stuff is in a better place at least now? Also mention of a Flower, Sun, and Rain remaster. Did anyone play the 2016 release of The Silver Case?

The other day I found an old irc chatlog I had with @toups back in 2005 about Killer7. I was going to write an article about aesthetics and he was giving me some pointers. It was so strange reading it and trying to remember the game itself as we were talking about it. I havenā€™t played it in over a decade.

I never finished it either. But I remember the vinculum gate and ā€œWeā€™re in a tight spot!ā€ clear as day.

Flower Sun and Rain might be my all-time favorite bad game.

I picked up the Silver Case remake (but not the sequel thing), but barely touched it yet. It runs pretty well on my not-powerful laptop though, so I will probably play through it.

Hype for k7 HD, though fort90 isnā€™t around to get the Letā€™s Argue About Killer7 band back together.

I have played about 20 minutes and it had the strange awkward dialog like K7 or FSR but without any graphics or VAing to actually look at it was harder to put up with. I thought I would need to be in a very specific mood to play it.

I will summon f90 when k7 HD comes out.

no idea why all the game developers talking about unionizing in my feed arenā€™t calling themselves Robotnik which was an actual socialist newspaper

ZOE2 re-remaster

seriously, this burst of effort is the best news Iā€™ve had all year. The IGDA has been useless for decades (aptly demonstrated this week) and sustained interest in this by the ever-churning workforce is desperately needed.

AAA studios are edging up to 50%+ contract workforce, churning them out every 9 months and bleeding institutional knowledge and greatly damaging entry-level peepsā€™ ability to plan and build a career (or QA of all levels). Contract stabilization should be the highest priority.

Damn Iā€™m hopeful this boulder can be pushed for the first time ever

Warning signs: most of the support Iā€™ve seen is from indie devs who arenā€™t really in the ecosystem, given that almost all indie games canā€™t even get close to paying people, so the support may be overestimated by a lot of signalling support from those not directly applicable for this.

re: unionization - I felt like one of the bigger underrepresented voices in this big push for it was QA. that is 100% where Iā€™d focus a lot of my energy because QA is treated horribly by pretty much the entire industry, intentional or not

and yeah, contractual stability would be a big focus too. I got lucky and ended up in a good space, but I can also imagine a scenario in which the situation I went through (where I was told to take a 2 week break while they redesigned the game and that 2 week break turned into 2 months and I had no savings) resulted in me just leaving

Odallus / Oniken developers JoyMasher apparently also have another, Shinobi/Ninja Gaiden-esque, game in the works alongside their Hard Corpsalike Blazing Chrome.
