i think it is easier to create spectacle through scale than through detail
lol, people painstakingly overinterpret and analyze the endings of Catherine to show that it is underpinned by transphobia, but when it comes to Yakuza, extremely egregious offence is removed (that is so obvious in its crassness) and it is praised to high heavens, notwithstanding that the whole series is plagued with the same underlying disposition that allowed something like that Yak3 thing to exist to begin with.
mind you, I am not downplaying the actual efforts to remove the grosser elements. just commenting on the discourse, particularly in the light of Catherine.
Frankly there are some pretty egregious things in Catherineâs original version already?
It makes sense to praise a company for having any foreword motion on removing transphobic content from the products if you want to encourage improvement.
This is an extremely labored double standard here? Even if somehow the new things in Catherine arenât âas badâ as reported, itâs still shitty. And to my knowledge, they have not improved the existing transphobic elements from the original.
a company choosing to remove content that belittles and further marginalizes a group, and can (and has) lead to real-world harm is something to be praised, yes.
the original catherine was transphobic horseshit eight years ago, too. so unless that magical neogaf post every dipshit on twitter likes to post as some anti-sjw âgotchaâ suddenly gained the ability to travel through time and retroactively acquit nearly twenty years of atlusâ queerphobic output, i sincerely doubt anything has changed.
sega did an objectively good thing here, showing maturity and growth in an industry that is overwhelmingly immature, whereas atlus can kiss my trans ass.
I hope Reg starts a podcast and just roasts everyone
Thereâs also a rumor that Xbox game pass is coming to switch (?)
For some reason even contemplating a new console generation just fills me with ennui
I built a PC in 2013 thinking it would help forestall the horror of being alive but there are not enough humble bundles in the world.
Good on Microsoft for refusing to link the fires though, end that cycle yâall, 360 emulators on windows, MCC on PC, burn it down
oh honestly itâs not that bad
people hate no fuss dedicated hardware too much
Some of the music and artwork in Axiom Verge is so crunchy and creepy. Its style is actually quite unique, not really the literal-minded Metroid reimagination itâs often stereotyped as.
I agree, a lot of stuff is just amazing. The music in that place with the crawling laser bots actually made me go âwhoa!â out loud. The whole aesthetic of the thing is very well-realized, and itâs just so cool. I also really like how the story unfolds the way it does, and how it ties into the mechanics.
My biggest gripe though is that all the areas are just way, way too huge, and not memorable enough, and getting from one place to the next is just a pain in the ass. The reason Super Metroid is often held up as the best example of getting these things right is that when you get a new thing and you think âoh I can use this back in that place!â, you not only know exactly where that was and how to get there, but getting there is quick and feels good because each area is distinct and doesnât last too long.
Getting around in Axiom Verge is such an ordeal, on the other hand, that when you get a new upgrade, you might still think âoh I can use this for that thing I sawâ, but itâll often be followed by ââŚwherever that wasâ and/or ââŚwell, if I ever find myself back there⌠SOMEdayâŚâ
But man is nearly everything else about it way cooler than people give it credit for.
i never beat Axiom Verge, but it always felt reminscent of what an Irem metrovania might have felt like, to me.
wish theyâd fuckinâ hurry up with either of these
Devotion (Taiwan top-selling indie horror) getting review bombed by CN players for hidden easter egg reads âXi Jinping Winnie the Pooh Moronâ
(this review bomb is particularly interesting to look at. also, the discussion boards have become a total warzone between china and taiwan.)
I hope these artists stay safe, especially those who werenât involved in this easter egg.
review-bombing has to be the lamest, most limp-dick form of expressing outrage.
I also just realized theyâre holding themself to only free games that are available on both Windows and Mac so far which means if they keep this up for a year or two theyâre going to blow through a whole lot of midbudget indies
In 1994, Digital Illusions (DICE) canceled a AAA, 99% complete Sega Genesis game called Hardcore. For 23 years Hardcore has gone unreleased. It has become one of the most sought after unreleased video games. Weâre thrilled to announce that Hardcore is being released for the first time ever on Mega Sg. The only known source code of the game was stored on a single, dead hard drive that was barely recovered.
Hardcore is a fast paced, euro-style runânâgun, space base thriller. Weâre dedicated to preserving this piece of video game history and Hardcore is included digitally on each Mega Sg system.
Mega Sg is a reference quality video game system with reference quality video and audio quality. Sega Genesis / Mega Drive is implemented 100% in FPGA, by Kevin âKevtrisâ Horton.
May require a firmware update to play Hardcore on Mega Sg
âHardcoreâ is now known as âUltracoreâ due to licensing reasons
