i never had a Gamecube so i have still yet to play GX but i remember a ton of people i knew talking about it, and no one talking about poor F-Zero X. when i bought it from a guy at Funcoland probably in 1999 or 2000 it was pretty cheap and i remember him saying something like “yeah it didn’t sell very well” as the reason for it so that was my guess as to why. probably a top 5 or at least top 10 n64 game for me and definitely one of the ones i spent a more significant chunk of time and energy on. i was so sad at the time that the expansion with the track editor was never released in the US.
tbh my biggest problem with it is i like the sort of jazzy music of F-Zero for the SNES and i’m sad they got rid of it for more generic shreddy rock tracks. like they’re pretty cool shreddy rock tracks but i like the vibe of SNES F-Zero more even tho i like the actual experience of playing X a lot more.
also F-Zero X backwards TASes are really fun thing i found out exists fairly recently
This is one of my favorite aspects of the game. The simplicity of the tracks also makes it seem like hunting the other cars is an intentionally emphasized part of the game. GX’s world and setting is a lot more robust and as much as I like that I think it makes the tracks feel like something to survive and experience rather than like a hunting ground to smash into other racers
