dynasty warriors empires 9 uses that char creator too!
I also realized that I had a few of these on Steam (or as spare Steam keys lying around from bundles) so I got to kick the can down the road on some of them. I can now play them (or not) on another platform at an unspecified future time.

The bad news for my backlog is I have a baby now and no time to play games. The good news for my backlog is I have a baby now and no money to buy games.
Don’t worry this isn’t a cry for help, I can’t spend the diaper money.
Turned off my Nintendo Switch Online auto-renewal, which gives me a few months to play some stuff on there if I feel like it. Feels like the responsible thing to do and I guess I can finally cave and start emulating stuff more often in the future if I really want to start playing the Classics again.
Did you know Steam has a handy thing that tells you exactly how much money you’ve spent on the platform for the life of your account?
$1,286.41. I’ve had my account for 15 years so that works out to an average of about $85 a year, which honestly? When you put it like that it doesn’t seem so bad.
Okay but what about Humble Bundles? No easy tool but someone made a script
EUR_USD_FACTOR = 1.13
sumPage = () => +[...document.querySelectorAll('.results .total')].slice(1).map(s => {
eur = s[0] === '€'
s = s.textContent.replace(/,/g, '.')
n = +s.replace(/[^0-9.]+/g, '')
if (eur) return n * EUR_USD_FACTOR
return n
}).reduce((a, v) => a + v, 0).toFixed(2)
goToPage = p => {
el = document.querySelector(`.jump-to-page[data-index="${p}"]`)
if (!el) return false
el.click()
return true
}
goAndSumPage = p => {
page = goToPage(p)
if (page) return sumPage()
return false
}
delay = ms => new Promise(res => setTimeout(res, ms))
run = async (counter = 0, sum = 0) => {
result = goAndSumPage(counter++)
if (!result) return sum
sum += result
await delay(500)
return run(counter, sum)
}
run().then(n => `Total spent on Humble Bundle: $${n} (${(n / EUR_USD_FACTOR).toFixed(2).replace('.', ',')}€)`).then(console.log)
et voila
So a little over $2100 (in combination with direct spending on Steam). Assuming similar levels of spend on other platforms, and hardware, maybe I’m looking at around $8,000-$10,000 over the past 15 years, what I’d consider since the dawn of my post-college-disposable-income era. Let’s call it $10k, which is an average of roughly $666 a year, so there you go. Hail Satan, Prince of Backlogs.
Can’t say I didn’t wish I had about half of that back!
Holy shit.
Going to try to keep my number in perspective by reminding myself that I didn’t really have a console outside of the PC for like two generations.
If that is not a link to the generic one for your account and is accidentally one specifically for mine, I’ll fucking die.
Clicking that link showed me my own numbers, yeah
Whew! You’ve got nothing to worry about with yours
I’m at ~500 bux since 2008.
is TotalSpend… not total? i thought TotalSpend encompassed OldSpend since it’s TotalSpend and not NewSpend. the description says
“TotalSpend” is the total amount of external funds applied to your account.
I think the total spend and old spend are pre and post 2015? Unless I misinterpreted in which case hey I spent 400 dollars less than I thought.
at least based on the text on that page, i think you spent 400 less than you thought
i can’t verify this, though
What will you do with this newfound windfall?
My plan is to use my actual and real new $35.93 on, at today’s astronomical tapioca rates, 4-5 fully-loaded boba teas.
Something equally regrettable I’m sure
